I have a real skepticism about how about mental health is now incorporated into the welfare system. It was incredibly common during COVID for doctors to confirm a diagnosis over the phone with no real consultation and the knock on effect of that is still with us. It's more money for less effort to register as incapable of work due to mental health issues than standard universal credit.

But at the same time, the fact that Reeves welfare cuts total just the right amount to allow her to meet her own fiscal rules feels very dubious.

I'm not certain but I think that might be the intention.

The definition of 'disabled' has been stretched beyond recognition.

I think of it as unable to walk, blind or properly mental.

Also, if you’re signed off with anxiety you don’t count as unemployed so politicians can say unemployment is down come election time
