Until you can identity all hot spots and clusters if you open up too quickly it will all come back with a bang. The numbers keep coming in and that's with a lockdown. With no lockdown, the NHS would be overrun.

Continue to reduce the number of cases over the next couple of weeks through lockdown and then step up testing which needs to be readily available not just talked about as capacity to test and then make it nearly impossible for people to access. Then track and trace every positive case (this is where the army/forces can play a major role). It is possible to get control but it still needs the will of the people to comply until a vaccine is readily available.

21,000 complaints about coronavirus price gouging.

Nearly 21,000 complaints by the public have been made to the competition watchdog over retailers and businesses inflating their prices on essential items during the coronavirus lockdown, officials have announced.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it has written to 187 businesses about price gouging on food and hygiene products, including hand sanitiser, and is now receiving calls primarily about customers struggling to get refunds on cancellations.

Different data sources I guess but I hope yours are correct.

Think it's the same source as Lovejoy as that also recorded 587 new deaths in England. That said, the total for England + Wales deaths individually is greater than 684 (587 + 110), so either Wales records figures differently or maybe there's some sort of data accuracy issue today

It’s nearly 20k and the government STILL hasn’t got a workable system to count deaths outside hospitals.

The true toll is MUCH higher.

It was a year ago that the government was made aware just what is required to be prepared for a coronavirus, 600 pages of document.
All was ignored.
Did the BBC mention this on the news? Of course not.
What we are seeing now is exactly what was predicted in that report.

I'm going to say this is madness.

It's like they are fighting an election and can tell as many lies as they like because they get printed and broadcast and then can be denied or defused later. Nobody questions it.

English democracy is safe for another week, maybe two.

The plateau itself is an improvement though. Things will hopefully improve further in the next week and continue from there. Fluctuating relatively small base sizes will always have an impact though. Perhaps we're better looking at weekly or rolling weekly data.
It’s not an improvement. It’s just that things aren’t worsening.
Yes, of course that's right, flawed logic really on my part. But still think it would be better looking at this with larger base sizes to try to minimise data fluctuations.
Not such flawed logic when a rolling weekly base size is used. Think this is definitely a better way to view the stats to avoid the data fluctuations we keep seeing, especially for Sunday and Monday figures.

813 in the UK as a whole, hopefully a blip but worrying

Short of certain businesses being open it's like a usual Saturday in my area. Parks packed, people out with mates having beers etc
