Priti Patel would probably struggle as well.

She's right, especially in light of their treatment of Hong Kong and their persecution of the Uyghurs (which is a global disgrace that people collectively seem to ignore)

Funny that Th#tc*r sent a task force to the southern Atlantic to defend the Falklands
Yet when the lease ran out on Hong Kong the story party did little to defend it .

I remember Patten shaking hands & looking very uncomfortable.

The Only people to blame are surely those who let it go !

You obviously agree therefore, that they are the ones responsible for today's continual raft of cock-ups then.

Well done.

We got there in the end!

The Tories are responsible for most things wrong in our world. Their time for reckoning is nigh.

Hang on, I think most people on here agree the Tories are terrible, but I'm not sure you can pin the expiry of a 99 year lease on them. Leases expire - you leave - that's kind of how it works.

The Chinese could have just booted us out but allowed the whole lowering-the-flag charade. The only surprise to me was that the Chinese allowed the demonstrations in HK to continue unchallenged for so long. Maybe they were allowing the demonstrators to overplay their hand before cracking down on them under the guise of maintaining law and order.

I think it is probably the right thing to open up a special immigration channel for HK residents in the circumstances.

I agree, they should start with the Tories in the leaderships of China and Russia, they are the arch conservatives. Paying lip-service to Socialism to maintain their hold on power.

But didn't China essentially tell us to f*** off? In which case, it would be safe to assume we were never going to get another lease.
