Oh dear. Emergency NATO meeting called tonight. US officials briefing that Putin has ordered invasion. All EU staff currently going through emergency evacuation.
If this is it, it is going to be a catastrophe.
I don't follow politics so it won't affect me. Why are you always going on about it. Nobody's interested.

What’s the time difference ? Am I better off going to bed early or staying up late to watch this unravel?

Also, since when do we call it Kyiv and not Kiev? Will tescos need to rebrand their chicken products?

Now might be a good time to make "When The Wind Blows" your bedtime/late night reading.

Russia won't cross the border ( if they do at all ), until after the Olympics have ended.

My son was in Kiev for 3 days until yesterday, not by choice. He was supposed to get another flight on from there - another story. He said the citizens of Kiev were out in restaurants and bars, shrugged and said Putin likes to make a noise and be taken notice of. They refused to take notice of him. I hope they're right but they are the ones nearest so perhaps their views are worth listening to.

I once had a Chicken Kiev from the extensive Birds Eye range of frozen foods. I bet they don't sell that in the restaurants and bars of a laid back Kiev.
This strategy of shoulder shrugging and ignoring the mass build up of military might on the border is a not a new thing. I would refer youse to Nero and his inaction whilst Babylon burned.
Although it is cool I would have thought ignoring an ego maniac like Putin is one of the last things one would want to do. More later when the Birds Eye Customer Services Department get back to me with an update on the current tense situation in Kyiv.

Who was it on here who used to go out to Ukraine a lot and was a bit obsessed with the weather in Ukraine? Was it Rhino?
An interesting read. Almost Dunnersesque in its complexity.
Almost. I'm in Nyíregyháza in Hungary up by the border with Ukraine, before going to Budapest. The view here is that Putin has f*cked it.
Despite some earlier resistance, NATO alliance has strengthened and the site of a German minister stood next to Biden while declaring Nordstream dead if there's a further invasion. In Ukraine they're now even more determined to pivot to the West. Finland and Sweden are now talking openly joining NATO.
There's also so much anti-tank and anti-aircraft weaponry sent to Ukraine that Russia would suffer severe losses.

I'll be doing some very important work in Budapest tonight. So less of the sarcasm, thank you very much.

Pretty much spot on. Putin is an evil mastermind and it would be a brave person who tries to predict what he’ll do. It would be a BIG mistake to invade the Ukraine for three reasons.
Although Russia would succeed in conquering the Ukraine they’d get a bloody nose. So many anti tank weapons and man portable air defence systems (MANPADS) have been sent in the Russian loses would be huge. Ukraine is a large country and it would take a lot to completely pacify it. Thirdly and where Dunners hits the nail perfectly is that any Russian action would serve to unify and reinvigorate NATO, the complete opposite to what Putin wants.
Sweden has long maintained an armed neutrality. The Swedish Military and parts of the Government have long wanted to join NATO but the electorate have always been against it. There have been Russian submarine incursions into Swedish waters but there have also been NATO incursions but made to look like Russians and with the clandestine aid of Sweden to make them look like Russian ones. But I’ll leave this to the conspiracy theorists on here to expand further.
