We'll only know the real impact in 12 to 18 months when we can begin to track the death rate against the norm. We just have no way of knowing how good or bad we're really doing in this.

Plenty of normal figures available from previous years.

Good that priti shows up and then refuses to apologise to nhs staff for lack of PPE.

Why is Priti Patel still in office? No empathy. Just like Boris she couldn't run a bath.

Could you imagine Diane Abbott as Home Secretary doing the same? No, thought so.

That doesn't make sense. However I'd take Dianne Abbott as Home Secretary instead of Patel any day of the week.

You are 100% correct in your assessment.

I could not indeed imagine Diane Abbott demonstrating as less empathy as Priti Patel.

I don't generally make personal comments about individual politicians, but I she strikes me as a deeply unpleasant woman.

Will be scanning every single person who mocked Abbotts number skills to ensure that they are posting the same things about hand cock and ugly patel fluffing their figures.

I’d seriously advise you to ease up on the racism about the Home Secretary’s looks. Put the bottle down mate and step back from the keyboard. Lockdown is hard for us all but there’s no need to go all fruit loop about it.

Thank you and Happy Easter.

Oh yeah - Diane Abbott would have been crucified for this

How can she possibly be Home Secretary, she can't even read a number

The only right wing politician left in the Tory party and a little cracker to boot. I like Priti.

Honestly reckon she’s not been seen until now because even for the Tory party, her views are so bonkers and right wing they don’t want her anywhere near the decision making.

A we all know, total deaths (i.e. from all causes) rise during the winter months and fall in the summer. Here is a factsheet from Public Health England that demonstrates this. You will see that two years ago the winter death rate surged a bit, which is all part of the usual variation.

That was from 4 weeks ago. Compare that with this week's

She has no discernible skills whatsoever.

You guys just don't get it do you? The real problem, is the amount of people with Covid19 requiring Intensive care and ventilation. Far, far above the norm. Hence the panic over being enough: NHS staff, ventilators , PPE and drugs. This is the issue. Deaths will probably be a bit higher. Don't forget we have lockdown, which seems to be effective. We also haven't got morons getting p-ssed in pubs, getting into fights walking through glass doors etc. Killing themselves in motor accidents and so on.

It says excluding covid-19 related deaths.

And what West Side story days. Unoicking the statistics on this will be long argued over. There was a study on deaths in China that argued the lives saved from the temporarily cleaner air was greater than the lives lost through coronavirus.

That's a good spot, but I can't work out why it says that. If you follow the link to the ONS website and download the spreadsheet it clearly states that 11,141 deaths include 539 from Covid-19.

A mistake maybe?
