I thought it was the trainer's sponge but, whatever it was, it wasn't going to do any harm and was quite understandable given that he was calling to the ref to stop the game because he was in real trouble. The ref decided otherwise, frankly anyone other than Dayton would've chinned him.

Dayton threw the trainer's sponge at the Ref, clearly pissed off that his injury didn't even get a free kick.

Just to clarify that he threw his boot in the direction of the ref and let out a stream of expletives at him. Deserved red sadly. Clay was appealing to the assistant that it was in frustration because he had broken his ankle so wonder if she was the one who told the ref it should be a sending off as he initially looked like he was only going to book him.
