The expenditure on current injured players may be underwritten by an insurance company that the club may of taken out on all their players - a bit like any business ensuring the elements that make up a business model. That assumption seems realistic the " loss" being minimised.
Further when any company has a reputation of treating staff much better than its competitors then it can attract staff in preference to other clubs - it's called brand enhancement.![]()
Dayton particularly we seem to have given a year's contract knowing he'll play about 2-3 months if we're lucky.

Agree 100% and said much the same a few times. Pro Football can be a really tough game to be employed in, high wages high risk employment.eagwgw wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 9:13 pm There is no dogfight this season, there is only one relegation place and already we are clear of that by some way. It'd take a massive loss of form to get there, I think with our 4-3-3 we will still be too much for some of the weaker sides.
I disagree with him retaining his old job if it goes tits up though. If we go on a winless streak and concede lots of goals, isn't he more the problem than the solution?
By having him in a protected role like this narrows down the potential managers we can get: for a start, some guys might want their own assistant, and secondly, it seems that if he does go, we need a defensive specialist, as that seems to be the part of the game where we are most lacking.
No coincidence that we immediately tightened up when Justin came in, but what if there was a good manager with a track record in this League with a long-time assistant who was defensively good?
If a really good Manager becomes available who wants to bring his own assistant in, then the hard decisions need to be taken.

I couldn't make today's game because I had to attend a wedding . After reading some of the match day ratings and comments I'm glad I couldn't be there .

A tough game to be employed in and high risk employment...yet you think there will be many who will turn a job down? You're contradicting yourself there Senior Sidizen. When the vacancy does arise there will be plenty of applicants.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 12:07 amAgree 100% and said much the same a few times. There's no way T&T would dispense with the services of Ross and the team after they put themselves forward and took on the role in the situation we found ourselves in.
To dismiss them wouldn't be a hard decision, it'd be a callous one and our owners are not that way inclined (rightly so).
Out of work managers would likely take on the existing staff, perhaps a tougher sell if we wanted to get someone already in post elsewhere but would be surprised if we were looking at that area of the market anyway.

Re: Swindon (H) Match / Exiles
Yes agree that if a vacancy arose, then of course there would be plenty who would apply and if offered the job, would be prepared to work with the existing backroom staff, but would they be the best of the Managers who are available and looking for work ? Thing is, the idea of not being able to bring in your own assistant might well put off some of the best candidates who are not desperate for an immediate job and when they do take a job, do it on terms more to their own suiting, we shall see. When I was working as an engineer, I sometimes turned down well paid jobs because they did not tick all the boxes that suited me personally. If we are good at our jobs, we cherry pick to get what suits us best, same of course goes for football managers, players as well. Like all Os fans, I just hope that we start to improve soon, whoever is running the show.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:10 amA tough game to be employed in and high risk employment...yet you think there will be many who will turn a job down? Re: Swindon (H) Match / Exiles
I dont think a new manager would have made much difference against a strong Swindon team. Yes, he might have started
4-4-2 but they were much better than us and even with a different formation, they would have still torn us a new one.
Its the simple fact that our current crop of players are not up to the standard of the top teams in this league.
I would swap all Swindon outfield players for ours in a heartbeat. Cruel but thats the truth.

I noticed when Angel was brought off the "management team" were no where near Ross, left him on his own, possible difference of opinion maybe. Management by committee doesn't work, especially when head honcho is the least experienced.

The initial formation just handed them the initiative.
If he goes down the road of blaming the players like Davis did, there may be a similar result.
All said and done, we have won one League game in the last six. Looking at the fixtures coming up, we could easily be one win in 10 games at the end of September... that might not be enough for him even though relegation seems very unlikely.
Many more results like today's and the nickname of ''Dross'' might well start to stick !!

On performances yesterday, it’s difficult to argue with that last comment. Every one of their players looked better than ours.DuvB wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 11:25 am I dont think a new manager would have made much difference against a strong Swindon team. Yes, he might have started

It’s bonkers to think a manager at our level would turn us down because he can’t bring in his own back room team.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 10:16 amYes agree that if a vacancy arose, then of course there would be plenty who would apply and if offered the job, would be prepared to work with the existing backroom staff, but would they be the best of the Managers who are available and looking for work ?
