Thank you, that was exactly the point I was making. A startup in the US rings up and offers tests and the government is supposed to bite off their hand?
You described it as further evidence of government incompetence. Believe the Guardian's spin on the story if you like, but to me the headline does not match the substance of the story.
I think you've missed my point.
Instead of trialling the Curative saliva-test kits for accuracy, the Government didn't even bother.
In the same way, when there have been offers to supply PPE, they didn't bother.
When they were offered the purchase of ventilators via the EU - again, they didn't bother.
This smacks completely of the incompetence of this Tory Government. Their mismanagement of this entire crisis has been truly appalling.

How do you know that? How do you know that the Government didn't offer to take 10000 test kits to trial and Curative said no or wanted £100 each for them (ie £1M)?

Errrrrrm, because nowhere since has the Government stated that they'd tested/trialled them and they weren't accurate?
One assumes therefore, that they simply didn't bother.
Or maybe you know differently?
Plus, where did the figure of £100 per kit come from?
I think you are simply p!$sing in the wind and making up the numbers as you go along. Are you any relation to Matt Hancock or Dominic Raab by any chance?

Tory broken promise and incompetence finally admitted:
What promise has been broken? Has there been an announcement already about the number of tests completed yesterday?
The target may well be missed given reports over the past few days (though the BBC has a story that says the target might be hit) but why don't you just wait a couple of hours til the daily briefing and know for sure, or couldn't you help yourself?

Doubling up by simultaneously whacking them up his arris.

It's kind of irrelevant either way, other than people will jump on it depending on whether they're a Tory or realistic.
It's great that we're there or approaching the 100,000 mark. If we can keep that number going, even expand upon it, then maybe we can think about ending the lockdown. But the damage has been done. 100,000 tests today or tomorrow won't mean sh*t to the c30,000 people already dead and their families.

You need to post more links guys, not working so far
I wonder if any British politican and/or senior person at the Foreign Office will face prosecution; possibly for being complicit in protecting a criminal? It will be particularly interesting to see the level of the abhorrent Priti Patel's involvement. More recently, of course, we have Dominic Raab to add to the list of vermin.
Silly me of course they won't. It's always going to be a rule for them and another for us. When these papers are released, they'll obviously be suitably censored.........purely for 'security reasons' of course.

Tests drop below 80,000 a day.
Instead of lying to hit an arbitrary target, why not actually put that effort into creating a sustainable system? fannies

Probably a lot of people involved in testing, distribution, etc are having some deserved time off at the weekend, or is that not allowed?

"sustainable system"
This seems to be the Achilles heal of this govenment, nothing they set up works properly. They blithely witter on about how well this and that are going, when all you hear on the radio and see in the papers is people queing up to say this and that are not working and things are getting worse instead of better. That they have been incapable of sorting out the personal safety of medical staff is truly shocking, in any other type of workplace the HSE would have been issuing prohibition notices like confetti.
