Thanks for that, what was his total games for us did he miss a game at all. Last bit didn't surprised me, I think he was making sure he didn't injure himself before his big move
Did you see how he won the penalty against sutton ?

Trying not to injure himself ?

You need to hide this alais fella !
Yes was there saw it all, how much did we pay that keeper, talk about rush of blood to the head bet Macca couldn't believe his luck, never doubted Macca wouldn't score. Think everyone there realised when that went in we was gonna go up.
No alias
But you would question his 100% coomitment
to LOFC By claiming

" probably didnt want to get injured before his big move ".

Sad JR very very sad acc7sations !!

Meanwhile all this talk oh how fit the Os are compared to teams of old and there you are........the best and perhaps the fittest member of the side is Jobi, a 39 year old, says it all ! No doubt the great sides of old would struggle fitness wise against the very best sides of today, but if the likes of Best Charlton Greaves etc had been born in this day and age they would of course have been even better players, especially with the better pitches of modern times, better balls boots and more protection given to forwards. AS to the great teams of the 60s, 70s and 80s etc if they had played against the mid to lower part of division 2 side that the Os are, today, no contest, they would have slaughtered us.

Which is why the present Os team would not have beaten the great mid 80s Liverpool team.
Anyway you are up late, I was talking on Skype to a lady friend who lives abroad, whats your excuse ?

If anyone thinks the Liverpool team of the 80's would lose to us is living in cloud cuckoo land. We would.never get near the ball to worry them about fitness levels.

Some people are deluded about the difference in quality and class, which cannot be overrun with fitness.

Tennis players play day after day, sometimes 5 setters.
To say a professional footballer can’t play two games a week is daft.
Mind you this resting hasn’t worked has it?
What’s that now? 5 defeats?
No one is saying they can't. The obviously are. It's a case of if they SHOULD.

They could play 365 times a year, I'm sure. But the quality of their performance would be rubbish, obviously. Which is why rest, to be at optimum performance, is so important.

Baffling how much people struggle with this concept.
Don’t be daft mate. They could play twice a day for a year and be fine so long as they played 4-4-2

Obviously they were far, far better footballers for their time.

But the game has progressed so much. Even old fashioned cloggers like Coulson are expected to be able to play football nowadays. The game just wasn’t like that back then. Can you imagine Sitton or Day doing anything with the ball other than lumping it long? They’ve never played a pass more than 5 yards in their lives.

Add to that the vastly improved strength and conditioning training which leads to far great physical ability, I think you’d be surprised.

So you think that the likes of the young Tommy Taylor and Glenn Roeder etc could not play football and just lumped it long all day ?
Think again and please do not bracket all of the old Os defenders as on the same level of skill as Sitton etc! The opposite in fact especially when it came to the young central defender Tommy Taylor of the wonderful 1969-70s team ( that won the old division 3 title ) Tommy often played too much short passing game in his own penalty box which sometimes led to slip ups where you wished he HAD belted it long ! Comparing the present day, past his best Coulson to some of our best defensive players of times gone by, no its just not on.

Ok, I’ll try another route to prove how stupid your original post was:

Let’s stick you on the schedule of a professional footballer for two weeks. Let’s see how long you can keep up before you need a rest.

As good as the Liverpool team of the 80's were they were partly responsible for the change in the back pass rule.

How many times would they kill a game by passing the ball around the back and then back to the keeper?

Now also imagine how they'd cope with being collectively and continuously pressed too. The sort of high energy pressing that opponents couldn't maintain back then due to their inferior conditioning and commitment to other priorities outside of football.
