At least we don’t have to wait for 5 minutes whilst equally incompetent officials use VAR to back up incorrect decisions like they do in the PL!gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 10:40 pmIt's getting more atrocious in this country by the week. You just get a consistently horrendous level of officiating throughout football.

Never really sure what 'they' are supposed to do in the short term. I don't think there is a conspiracy at work where they are intentionally producing bad referees. Seems much more likely than it's a combination of bad training and potential pool of refs being tiny because anyone who's seen what it's like refereeing at every level is a sure bet to get dogs abuse for barely any money.
Refs are not gonna be the reason 99% of clubs finish where they do over a season. They drop clangers like players do, it's just that a clanger from a supposedly impartial source that nevertheless favours one side feels worse.
I'm hacked off but don't wanna sound like an arsenal whining non stop.

Sweeney makes me a bit edgy when he's in the side.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:47 pmI haven't a problem with Sweeney because he's a good player . It's just that Jack Currie is better .

Fair points but you have to call out blatant errors like that one tonight I think.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 10:46 pm Never really sure what 'they' are supposed to do in the short term. Yep absolutely. The decision stunk (granted watching it back I can see how within the letter of the law he gives it) and makes the case for there being some kind of orange card where you are forced into subbing a player off. A red for that feels completely disproportionate to the perceived offence.

RW told to hold back on the ref by media team, gets a dig in at the EFL though and rightly so too
The first thing is admitting there's a problem, rather than the approach the FA and the leagues have taken in crushing dissent by managers by constant fines and bans (see above for an example)Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 10:46 pm Never really sure what 'they' are supposed to do in the short term. We've seen in major tournaments English refs are the least competent and the EPL use of VAR is by far the worst worldwide. Until they admit that and make sweeping changes it leaves the other angle open of favouritism and in the very worst case, corruption.

Re: Exiles thread - Birmingham City (A)
The ref ballsed up in the same way that a defender balls up a clearance or a manager balls up tactics. It'd annoying but it happens.
Absolutely can criticise it but leave it there - I really struggle to buy the idea that every time a big decision goes against us, it's because someone is on the take, and every time it goes for us, it's because we've been providing bungs. Focus needs to be on how to improve the quality of refs and clarifying or tightening rules so they are as intuitive as possible to fans and as unambiguous to officials as possible - accepting that complete consistency is impossible in such a subject thing as sport.
I never want Orient to sound like Arsenal or Spurs. The obsessing over refs in the prem is tedious beyond belief.

I sense your angst could be assuaged by the introduction of VARMistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 11:12 pm The ref ballsed up in the same way that a defender balls up a clearance or a manager balls up tactics. It'd annoying but it happens.

Richie sums up my feelings exactly. It just feels like a wasted 5 hours travelling. I was really looking forward to seeing where we were compared to the leaders and we’ve been robbed of the chance.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 10:53 pm

It wasn’t just Orient fans that had the game ruined, the same applies to Birmingham. It was shaping up to be an entertaining game but then just petered out into a training exercise of attack v defence.

This is bollocks. Sweeney has put in decent performances at Wrexham and again tonight.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:53 pmSweeney isn't L1 standard being brutal, teams target him down that side so Richie will need to pick someone to basically double up. Three games without Currie is worse than being down to 10 tonight.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:47 pmI haven't a problem with Sweeney because he's a good player . The ref and whoever is in charge of him has to hold their hands up and say yeah, we’re really sorry, we got one wrong.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 10:40 pmIt's getting more atrocious in this country by the week. It’s the inevitable cover up which is really going to piss me off.
