Love this whole drama tbh
Fact is now though if a team comes knocking for Wellens at the end of the season, he’s off.
We are in a great position and playoffs are unlikely, but achievable. His priority is getting us as high in the table as he can, and getting the best players possible is part of that. The club have a longer term view.
Both are in our interests. We are gonna have a hell of a team in a season or two though

I think it’s been obvious for ages that the club needs a new ground if we are to have serious chance of sustaining a place in the Championship when we get promoted.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:40 amTalking about this yesterday,we all came to the same conclusion,we need a new ground unfortunatelyMistadobalina wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 11:34 amI don't think that is either true or remotely relevant. But the clubs financial sustainability does worry me. We've come very close to bankruptcy due to reckless spending and our losses and debts are concerning enough as it is.

I agree as I said is he playing both sides and in the process showing other clubs if given the funds achieve even more? I don’t really know. But yes get rid of some dead wood and 3/4 astute summer signings we could have a very good side.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:19 pm Love this whole drama tbh

Even if we don’t mKe the playoffs, it’s easier to attract players after a 7th/8th placed finish than 14th/15th.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:19 pm Love this whole drama tbh

You can’t blame him for anything he’s thinking, I make him totally right. The only question is over whether he should be saying it publicly or not. But I can understand why he has when others are giving a contrary view point in their interviews.

It's been mentioned before about something about saving on wages . If that's the truth then it's poor . We should be identifying who we want before the window opens then going in for them straight away .ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:19 am I support Richie all day long, and he's right. I personally would love to know why we didnt get either of the experienced strikers we were after. Doubt we ever will know though

Please take it from me Red that is the truth although many on here think I’m making it up. I’m not. Ling said this in a past interview. If they sign a player early then there paying him to basically sit around for a month or two. It’s the clubs policy and not necessarily Lings? That is the very reason we sign players late in the window. Occasionally we get the odd early one but in all honesty I’m not sure if that’s because there a priority or they arrange a deal with the player regarding payment terms?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 1:43 pmIt's been mentioned before about something about saving on wages . How's that work then? Surely if they sign a player early in the window then he comes in and starts playing from then (assuming he's fit) - so the clubs getting return for the wages straight away. I could understand it if they sign someone at the very start of the summer, but surely not in the January window?Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:05 pmPlease take it from me Red that is the truth although many on here think I’m making it up. Regarding the pre season window, if we sign late to save on wages it could be a false saving if other clubs get in early and snap up the proven, quality players leaving us with those that aren't really wanted .

Some people on here were asking why are Stevenage doing better than us,it’s because they sign players early especially in the summer,I suppose they take a gamble and would rather have a smaller squad with more quality than a larger one with less quality. They take a gamble which in this and last season seems to have paid off. They identify there players early and in all honesty it’s paid off. Not sure about the winter window but you can’t deny that we have missed out on a good few signings over the years due to the clubs policy.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:47 pmYou are spot on there, there can be no excuse for not signing a player as early as possible in the January transfer window.StillSpike wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:36 pmHow's that work then? I mean this isn't really a question of ambition so much as it is size. There is only so much money we can spend when the limit to our gates is just under 9k. The owners have been consistent in saying they simply can't afford to subsidise the sort of deficits you'd need to compete in the championship. The fact they are seriously looking to build a new ground suggests to me they are pretty ambitious, just they are taking a longer term view.gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:23 pmYup I remember that same interview, just trying to remember if it was a Q&A, AGM or website feature.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:05 pmPlease take it from me Red that is the truth although many on here think I’m making it up. If Wellens gets to the point where he wants and earns a move to a bigger club, fair enough. That point was probably always going to come.

Yes you have a point, but I’m not sure the board really expected to be in this position 5 years ago and to the club’s credit they have over achieved imo. Not to sure if ever I will see the club move to a new ground in my lifetime or reach the championship(which imo is doable)Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:24 pmI mean this isn't really a question of ambition so much as it is size. Re: RW seriously pi55ed off
Let’s be clear, this isn’t about Richie demanding more money to bolster his squad to make a play off push.
This is him agreeing to let Turns go back to Brighton, Thompson going out on loan to Barnet and Drinnan sold to Swindon.
In exchange, he was going to be given a senior striker - totally necessary given Agyei is out for the season - and a younger loaner forward.
We let everyone go out the door. We then f*cked up bringing the striker in.

Re: RW seriously pi55ed off
So I'm reposting this from earlier this season as it is relevant as it disproves the notion that we sign players late - it relates to last summers window. Also the crap that we sign players late to save wages which the same people keep posting.
"So to put this late transfer bullshit to bed:- We Signed:-
1/7 Ethan Gailbraith on expiry of his Man U contract a day earlier.
1/7 Dan Agyei on expiry of his Crewe contract a day earlier.
1/7 Max Sanders on expiry of his Lincoln contract a day earlier.
5/7 Idris El Mizouni on loan from Ipswich Town.
6/7 Sam Howes from Wealdstone.
10/7 Sol Brynn from Middlesboro. This was the earliest date M'boro would allow him to join us.
21/7 Joe Pigott from Ipswich on the same day he had his contract at Portman Road ripped up.
1/8 Ed Turns on loan from Brighton 2 days after returning from Brighton's US pre season tournament.
2/8 Jordan Graham who has been talking with other clubs after his release from Birmingham. Wellen's really wanted him.
14/8 Shaq Forde from Watford after they agreed he could join.
1/9 Brandon Cooper on deadline day after injury to Beckles .
First three signed on the first day they became free agents, could not have signed any sooner.
El Miz Signed because of his excellent relationship with ML - no-one thought we could get him back but Ling got him.
Sam Howes was a bit left field as signings go.
Sol Brynn signed for us the deal had been in the making for a couple of weeks but Boro wanted him for pre season training before letting him come to us.
Joe Pigot had another season at Ipswich and had to negotiate his release and joined us the day he left Ipswich Town.
Ed Turns signed at the earliest opportunity after Brighton agreed he could return, He was in America with BHA three days prior to signing.
Jordan Graham was speaking to other clubs before we got him we had been talking to him for some time before he made his mind up to come to us.
Shaq Forde not sure how long he was in the pipeline but brought in to cover Agyei and Drinan getting injured.
Brandon Cooper signed on deadline day to give us a fourth centre back as cover.
So 9 of our 11 signing made before the season started Forde and Cooper signed before deadline day was done. It's not that they were signed late but to get decent players in a club like ours needs to be patient because we haven't got a budget to spend money on players - apart from Howes (nominal fee) all our signings were out of contract or loans. We have had terrible luck with injuries early on and it has forced our hand with the Forde and Cooper signings.
We don't put off signing players to save a months wages here and there I'm afraid there are some proper mugs on here who will believe anything, Ling commented last close season that one of our signings had delayed putting pen to paper and at least it had saved the club a months wages it was tongue in cheek but those of a limited IQ are unable to separate this from fact. it was a one off and down to the player not the club"

Re: RW seriously pi55ed off
Thank you for this. The whole “we sign players late to avoid paying a few weeks of wages” is such monumental bollocks yet seems to persist on this forum as if it’s fact.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:50 pm So I'm reposting this from earlier this season as it is relevant as it disproves the notion that we sign players late - it relates to last summers window.

Re: RW seriously pi55ed off
It was obvious as soon as we were promoted that if our club is in with a chance of being promoted to the Championship that a massive amount of further investment is needed because the owners stated they couldn’t afford to subsidise the sort of deficit needed to compete in the Championship.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:24 pmI mean this isn't really a question of ambition so much as it is size. There is only so much money we can spend when the limit to our gates is just under 9k. The owners have been consistent in saying they simply can't afford to subsidise the sort of deficits you'd need to compete in the championship. The fact they are seriously looking to build a new ground suggests to me they are pretty ambitious, just they are taking a longer term view.gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:23 pmYup I remember that same interview, just trying to remember if it was a Q&A, AGM or website feature.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 2:05 pm
Occasionally we get the odd early one but in all honesty I’m not sure if that’s because there a priority or they arrange a deal with the player regarding payment terms?
Thing is signing late then means they're behind on fitness so the football side suffers as a result
That's how I see it too, whatever PR comes next the glass ceiling of the club's ambition has become apparent and it's lower than Richie'sRich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:19 pm
Fact is now though if a team comes knocking for Wellens at the end of the season, he’s off.
If Wellens gets to the point where he wants and earns a move to a bigger club, fair enough. That point was probably always going to come.
I therefore come to the only conclusion possible that if the club seriously want to compete in the Championship they are actively looking for a massive additional investment to make this possible, they clearly can’t manage it without.
If they are not seriously looking at massive additional investment then any supporter can kiss goodbye to any chance ever of our club ever being promoted to the Championship for any sustainable length of time.

Re: RW seriously pi55ed off
All you ever do is insist the club spends more money you flip flop between insisting the board spend more and more on players and then threatening not to buy a season ticket if we lose form and things look a bit dicey- earlier this season it was spend more on players as we were going to get relegated and with the same squad we are now 9th - consolidation would be a good achievement this season, we need to build slowly towards the play offs and not overstretch ourselves because we ain't getting a new ground or a massive influx of cash anytime soon.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 5:03 pmIt was obvious as soon as we were promoted that if our club is in with a chance of being promoted to the Championship that a massive amount of further investment is needed because the owners stated they couldn’t afford to subsidise the sort of deficit needed to compete in the Championship.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:24 pmI mean this isn't really a question of ambition so much as it is size. So are you gonna tell Richie that he's wrong, if so can we watch it as a live stream?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2024 4:50 pm So I'm reposting this from earlier this season as it is relevant as it disproves the notion that we sign players late - it relates to last summers window. Also one take from your list you're suggesting that's the earliest we could've signed some of those players but in there you have players signed in August which is late in context of the season having already started, hence behind schedule / no pre-season. So question is did we miss others earlier on? That's what Wellens seems to have gripe with in this window.
