Yes that was a rather rather silly and flippant thing to say, but footballers are on the whole not the most deep thinking people, especially when they are younger and he was probably over exited at the time about going back again to his former club. We have all said things at times without thinking that could have been said far better !

Grow up you Smyth moaners
He's gone back to his boyhood club. Of course he's excited about that
I hope Smyth gets over this latest injury setback and goes onto fulfill a great career
It was a privilege to have him at the Os

The likes of Laurie Cunningham, Alan Comfort,
Glenn Roeder, Peter Allen and Peter Kitchen to name a few have earnt the right to say it was a
privilege to have had them at the Os ..
Certainly wouldn’t have Smyth in the bracket but it’s all about personal opinions

Boyhood club ? Grew up at Linfield. When you take into consideration loans away, has spent more time at Orient than QPR.

Doesn't revolve around just playing games....injuries can influence family life. A simple kick about with the kids is gone...

He was one of the most important players who scored goals for us that was a key part of not only promotion, but winning the league. What more do you want?

On paper the loan thing doesn’t look great but he clearly means he feels at home at QPR and feels like he hasn’t been away

Smyth shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath as Alan Comfort.
Smyth was good for a season, and scored a few goals, Alan Comfort is a club legend who scored 46 goals in 150 games over 3 seasons!!

What a stupid comment. I don't know your age but you obviously never saw Alan Comfort. The man was a superb left winger and a true Orient legend.

Comforts slalom dribbling down the left wing was a joy to watch, a true Orient legend with a wand of a left foot.
88/89 season Comfort was incredible.
How fitting his last game was play off final v Wrexham, before jumping into a helicopter to fly off to get married.
I’ll admit it I cried when he left us.
My fav Orient player

Alan Comfort played in the top division and if it wasn't for injury would have become established as a top class player.

Comfort was as good as any seen at the Os, ridiculously prolific for a winger, and usually the only good reason to watch dreary late 80s lower league football.
Didn't play in the top division though, Middlesborough were Div 2 when he played there.

Like for like though, the game is miles faster and more technical now and defenders are better. Smyth is probably better.

Saying that, when I was 30 a few years ago, playing right back in the fans v legends games, a 50 something comfort flew past me with ease. What an honour.

Defenders are better. You never saw Laurie Cunnighams scars I take it ?

Of course Comfort was a great player in our Division 4 team that scraped to promotion via the play-offs. And he may have gone on to be a good Division 2 player if not for injury. But it takes more than 3 seasons to be classed as a club legend.

Smyth was the catalyst for us walking League 2. Created countless goals and scored some of the best goals seen from an Orient player in forever.

Think it’s been a while since a player scored so many great goals in a season.
Good luck to Smyth, it’s a short career and don’t blame him in the slightest for wanting to maximise the returns on his talent.

4 assists in two seasons.

People suggesting Smyth is in the same league as Alan Comfort, either haven't seen Alan Comfort play, or have bad memories.
Smyth 14 goals in 2 seasons, Alan Comfort 46 goals in 4 seasons. Nuff said.
