Then tried the new Julia Roberts film on Netflix. Enjoyable enough, I guess.
Watched that the other night and thought it was a terrible missed opportunity.

Don't disagree with that. Could and should have been so much better.

The Fabelmans. A charming semi-autobiographical ode to cinema. It charts the childhood of Sam Fabelman (Steven Spielberg) as he deals with life in a Jewish family in 50s America. I loved it.

Wonka

A good cinema-event film. Great cast and had a bit of a Mary Poppins feel to it. As a prequel to the 1971 Gene Wilder film I thought it held up really well. And Timothée Chalamet portrayal of the young Wonka is surprisingly good (I put him above Depp, but still a notch below Wilder).

Also, I wasn't expecting it to be a musical, but was impressed by the score. A quick search after leaving the cinema revealed the songs were all written by Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy).

If you're looking for something thoroughly entertaining at the cinema that works on many levels, then you could do a lot worse than to go and see this.

Agreed, Wonka is a really good watch.

Don’t think the new Willy comes close to either wilder or Depp, though.

Six the musical.

A new production at the Vaudeville Theatre. The six wives of Henry VIII get together for a musical performance that invites the audience, assisted by some bloody expensive merchandise acquisitions, to deconstruct the Tudor-era patriarchy.

Meh. It's popular and has decent reviews, so I may be alone here, but it just lacked any emotional or intellectual depth. It's just not as clever as it thinks it is. It's just shouty women singing about how they don't really need men afterall. But the rest of the audience loved it.

If you're into the occasional mainstream West End production that doesn't require much use of your grey matter then I guess it'll do. But, in my opinion, there are better options available.

By the end of the play, how much sympathy would you say you had for the murdered wives of Henry VIII? Trying to work out whether to recommend it to someone

None. But I'm a poncey, metropolitan-elite, champagne-socialist, theatre bore. And I was definitely in the minority as being cynical and unimpressed.

It tries to present history (or "her-story" - get it? The audience certainly did judging by their hysterical laughter) through the perspective of the wives. But it does so without adding much to what most people would have gleamed from their GCSEs.

It's basically a manufactured girl band playing a set list that is contrived around the theme of being old Henry's wives. But I can't even remember a single song.

However, and I cannot stress this enough, it's popularity and critic reviews suggest that I'm a bit of a lone voice here.

Fair play for sticking to this.

Finally got round to watching the final season of Succession.
Overall I wasn’t impressed. It was very repetitive and some of the characters (such as Shiv) were very annoying

Let me know other stuff you don't like so I can add them to my To Watch list.

In the heat of the night (1967)- a black cop has to solve a murder in racist America. Really nothing special at all, yet this won SEVEN oscars! Just like football, can only assume stuff was just rubbish back then / lower standards or there weren't many films released.

For the time, it was a cutting edge film noir released during the height of the American civil rights movement. The 40th Academy Awards, at which it won so many awards, had to be delayed due to the assassination of Martin Luther King. And the soundtrack was by Quincy Jones.

However, like many Oscar winners since, the awards were very politicised. There's no way it was a better picture than the other nominations; Bonnie & Clyde, The Graduate and Look Who's Coming to Dinner. All three of which have aged far better.

I like most things but Succession was so hyped up perhaps my expectations were too high.
However here’s some things that I don’t like from the tellybox
Mrs Browns Boys
Eastenders
The One Show
Not Going Out
Pointless

Knock yourself out

Derren Brown's Unbelievable.

Playing at the Criterion Theatre, this is a magic show written by Derren Brown, but with several performers doing all the tricks. It's nothing special, but an okay evening out.

Given the small size of the theatre, I'd only recommend going if you grab a cheaper seat as they will all have decent views. It's also fairly interactive so, if you tick the box when purchasing your ticket, you have a good chance of some involvement.

Might check that out, do like a magic show.
Sounds similar to Wonderville Magic & Illusion at the Palace Theatre which I saw a couple of years ago.

Goodburger 2- fairly amusing watch at times, its very silly of course. Kenan and Kel will be collecting their pensions soon.

WW2 (Netflix)- fascinating footage I could watch all day. The brutality is still absolutely shocking. Considering my sympathy level for the residents of Hamburg.

Who watched Traitors S1? I really meant to but never got round to it but gonna make certain we watch the latest season which starts tonight as - Lame to Fame Klaxon - my mate's in it. They're actually screening it at a pub in the Stow.

The Tourist. Rewatched S1 last weekend before the start of S2. Every bit as good as I remembered it.

Season 1 was the best reality tv there’s been in decades, I’d highly recommend a little binge. Genuinely hilarious throughout, with a couple of characters who are up there with the all timers from the good Big Brothers.

Are your mate’s initials AB & very active on e17 social media? I’d been following her for a while so she’s definitely my early one to support.

But yeah, honestly can’t recommend season 1 enough.

Enjoyed ep1 of the new series but his girlfriend is an awful actor and some of the dialogue and plot is pointless and far fetched. Enjoyable though

Correct. She was one of the main stars of our lockdown games of Werewolf on Zoom, she'll be bloody brilliant on this.
