Andy Rourke, bass player with The Smiths, has died from pancreatic cancer.
My head is full of his base lines now, so many. Sad news

Indeed. Whenever I've heard Morrissey play Smiths songs live with various incarnations of his band, it's really hit home just how bloody good Rourke and Joyce were and how key they were to the band's sound. Without them everything sounded lumpen and lacked the fluidity that was needed for Marr's guitar work.
There's plenty of songs to demonstrate Rourke's playing ability, but this is about as good an example as you'll ever get:

Very sad news indeed. I was only reading the other day about his varied career and different groups he'd played with.
I was fortunate to see The Smiths play live a few times, too many favourites to pick one out but he brought great melody to the bass lines and they stand out as much as Marr's top line.
RIP Andy Rourke.
