Itβs a lovely day in the sun. But soooo disappointing that Big Paul didnβt get to his century. I hope we can post 400 plus by the close.

Stream commentary said Elgar was in ground with children. Didn't need him today - well done Walter and Allison.

He threw it away. Batted really well until he got to the early nineties and started playing some rash attempted shots definitely the nervous nineties today. They said on the stream that he averages over 100 opening the batting for Essex after doing really well in the Covid affected "Bob Willis Trophy" season - and tbf he was good today. Cox was pure class .
Amusing to read some Surrey fans on line accusing Essex of preparing a flat pitch to negate their wonderful pace attack. Lets see what happens when they bat and Cook and Porter can get at them.

As if they don't prepare pitches for their bowlers at the Oval. All teams do it, IMO.

Only been to a county game once in my life , it was many years ago and it was first day at Leyton cricket ground , it was pretty boring till the last Esssex man came in and hit a 50 off about 3 overs , he also bowled the opposition's opening batsman in the short time left for the other team to bat ( think it was Kent ) ive only been to one day games since ( mainly at the Oval )
