During last year’s election campaign, Johnson announced plans to increase the yearly surcharge for all non-EU migrant workers by more than 50% from £400 to £625 and to extend it to all EU citizens who migrate to the UK after Brexit.

The fee is payable for each member of a family migrating, meaning nurses who come to Britain with a spouse and two children would have to pay the government £2,500 a year for the privilege of working in the NHS.

Announcing the change in November last year, the health secretary, Matt Hancock, tweeted: “It’s the National Health Service not the International Health Service. Everyone should make a fair contribution towards our NHS.”

Matt Handick - what a nasty piece of work.
Sure but better to have a Tory government than a *spits* socialist Labour government, eh?

They can always call another election before their 5 years are up.

They've got quite used to that!

That is a stupid comment and you know it.

It is that sort of attitude that keeps us in opposition.

Keir is in, the centrists are back in charge. Get over it or go blue.

Simple really.

Laughing at care home deaths.

Even Piers Morgan and the Daily Mail take offence at that.

This is the kind of nonsense I’m on about.

She laughed at an unfortunate moment, obviously that means she finds it HILARIOUS that so many people have died 🙄

Good to see lefties not reading the Daily Mail. Other than when it suits them, of course

You really need to rewatch it, if you think that there was just the one 'unfortunate moment'.

Helen Whateley is seriously your 'Care Minister'? She came across as an utterly annoying, giggling, unprofessional, disingenuous person.

To consider that interview as anything other than an absolute 'car crash' just goes to prove how brainwashed that you Tories truly are.

Is that the best you lot have got to put up as a spokesperson; responding to the most serious of issues during our lifetime?

Pathetic!

My misses told me about this and I watched the video. That is an utter disgrace and the women needs to be sacked or resign from her role sharpish. I am not being funny here, but it wouldn't surprise me if she blamed her buck teeth for laughing.

She can f*** off and never show her ugly mush again as far as I'm concerned.

My greater concern is how did such an incompetent extremist get to where she is in the first place.

No intellect, no ability, no charm.

Only connections.

The Conservative Party today announced that it is changing its emblem from a poorly drawn blue tree to a condom because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance.

A condom stands up to inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed.

One of the great ideas that the government has done in this crisis was the money guarantee scheme. Tuffers is right in that not much by way of numbers of companies or amount in money is actually getting out there in real life. This is disgusting as when the dust settles and work can resume how many companies will.have gone to the wall as they were not able to access the funds required?

The big issue coming very shortly is the wages for April, will companies without income or a.lack of income have enough reserves to be able to pay them?

I listened intently to this on LBC yesterday and the issue isn't the government as the funds are there, but the banks asking for all and sundry bits of paper to support their application. Things such as cash flow forecasts, budgets, business plans etc. Whilst that would be normal requirements in normal times, this is not normal times and this is government guaranteed money, so mr bank we bailed you out last time round, it's your turn now to bail out the companies and start lending them our money.

What the government need to do is tell the banks, hold on here, release the funds and keep people employed. Speed up the process as its taking 3 weeks at present to get a decision made, 3 weeks, it should take 3 days at worst. Come the end of April I fear a raft of companies going bust and people turfed onto the dole.

I’m not a Tory, I just think it’s insane to suggest a govt minister finds elderly people dying of Covid-19 hilarious because she smirked when looking into a camera.

This kind of hysterical nonsense doesn’t help anyone and lessens the effect of actually holding the govt to account for their lack of action and preparedness (which is perfectly fair)

Eh?

Hysterical nonsense; by whom exactly?

The purpose of this very story on the news was to highlight the blasé attitude of a Tory Government Minister.

She was indeed being held to account for their lack of action; and was found wanting.

Lest we forget that as far back as 2008, Helen Whately was working for the healthcare department of McKinsey; the powerful US management consultancy driving the race to replace the NHS with a private, American-style health system.

Her own department proposed the £20 billion cuts in the NHS budget that slashed 137,000 jobs and is still devastating public health today.

Yet another despicable Tory creature comes to the fore during this Horror Show.
