Problem is that "only" about 17,000 people have caught it so far. When we all come out of lockdown there's an awful lot of us (over 60 million - 17,000) who could potentially catch it for the first time, unless of course I'm missing something big here and I hope I am.
Sorry, read that and none clearer. My numbers above are not meant to be accurate by the way, just making a vague point. Can you highlight what I'm missing - ta.
The likelihood is that many times the number of recorded cases actually exist. They are only testing those who've been admitted to hospital through symptoms. Given the vast majority of people who get the virus express no to 'mild' symptoms, it's safe to assume hundreds of thousands (one estimate is half the population) have already had it or have got it.

Thanks for that.

Could an endgame be people take the antibody test and those who pass return to normal life? Not sure where that leaves the oavf though.

Thought the plan is for us all to get it, just not all at the same time.

Not only that, but we'll have lost the services of a chunk of the health service personnel because they've been working without the PPE and some will be getting large loads of virus. On the plus side, we may have more ventilators by then (assuming the Govt don't balls that up - which may be quite an assumption)
A figure we haven't seen is how many people who require invasive ventilation have died/survived. I believe the prognosis is pretty bad for anyone getting that badly ill.

Covid-19 patients in UK intensive care have 50% survival rate
We are going to give our health care these masks? I'd rather take my own chances really as I'm sure you'd be killed if you put these on. Disgraceful.

I saw that and I've just been looking at the report. It looks to be twice as deadly as viral pneumonia for those in critical care. It also looks as though those with invasive ventilator support only have a 1 in 3 chance of survival.
What I don't understand is why the number of deaths is so low? Are the majority dying without going into critical care?

Is it low or is this just the beginning?

Depends what effect the current social distancing/isolation/improved hygiene measures have on flattening the contagion curve over the next month or so, and how the health service copes (or doesn’t), I suppose. But unless we get up to speed with test, test, testing, isolating the infected and chasing down their contacts a la South Korea I can see this lockdown last a pretty long stretch on & off.

Don’t you live in the Cotswolds with a beautiful house and a beautiful girl?

Nope, I live in Kent in a beautiful house with a very happy family.
I was sent a video yesterday of east ham. Absolute sh*t hole but there you are.
You have a friend in East Ham? Who would have known.
He has contacts EVERYWHERE.
I’m sure he was sent such a video, and I’m sure it was accompanied with comments like Look at this filth/animals/savages. We all know the type.

I posted that this might happen a few days ago. Pubs have got high overheads and if a landlord has a tenancy, he is up the creek without a paddle at the moment with zero takings coming in.
