I immediately doubted the story too. I guess this was what they were talking about.
Childhood is tough enough without the world’s media vilifying you. If a kid wants to identify as a cat, then who cares? If it makes them feel a happier and more fulfilled human being, then why should adult society and the global media bully them over it?
Someone who identifies as a woman wants to be treated as a woman, so how should someone who identifies as a cat be treated?
Re: The trans debate
Very good question.
Another good question is, starting from a position of not knowing whether someone is male or female, what does it mean for a man to treat someone as a woman who isn’t one, and what does it mean for a woman to treat someone as a woman who isn’t one

Re: The trans debate
What a weird response. I liked Story of O’s question. It’s the right and most pertinent question to ask. I’m sure SofO will clarify if I’ve got it wrong, but it seemed rhetorical, since I’m not the one advocating for “cat identity” so clearly am not the person with a strategy for how to reinforce a kid who presents with one.
Man, this thread is so bizarre.

AhemCEB wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 1:51 pm My concern on it is this:
The focus on the “cat” part of this story provides some tabloid sensationalism, but also moves the window of what’s OK a bit more towards the mad: eg
“it’s one thing accepting that a boy is a girl, but accepting a kid is a cat? No way”
But the most important fact remains that boys with personalities and interests considered “feminine” are not girls, and that that matters.

Re: The trans debate
Why is it that people who are ''Different'' to others are so vilified, mocked and even hated ?
Remember how the brilliant Alan Turing was treated for being gay, end result was that this ''Hero'' was persecuted so much that in the early 1950s he ended up committing suicide. This the fate of a man who's team of Bletchley Park Code Breakers, helped shorten the duration of the second world war.
If the person does not commit a crime or hurt anyone because of their sexuality or the way they choose to dress, then does not matter a jot to me. After all is said and done, if a person is gay or transsexual, it should be just a personal thing.

I have no catching up to do at all. Just puzzles me why so many mocking and hostile comments being directed at a part of the worlds community who are born different to others when it comes to how they feel and look when it comes to their own personal feelings about their sexuality. Surprisingly enough,I can expect the Farage mob to be amongst closed and narrow minded critics but much of the hostility on this forum comes from people who often express left wing views, I always thought they were supposed to be more liberal and open minded in their thoughts, apparently NOT !CEB wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 11:18 amSid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 11:03 am Why is it that people who are ''Different'' to others are so vilified, mocked and even hated ?

Yes, as I said, you have some catching up to do. You’re puzzled because you know not the first thing about a left wing, progressive objection to trans activism. The objections (which are not in any way based on mockery, not at all based on the idea people shouldn’t express themselves however they choose) are outlined here clearly.
There’s a word for people who - like you - reach a conclusion about people’s motivations and make assumptions about them without even attempting to understand them; it’s “bigot”.
So forgive me for laughing at your ludicrous, lazy appearance in a thread about a subject you understand nothing about, as if you have anything of note to say.
Re: The trans debate
“I have no catching up to do. I’m just puzzled why left wing people are criticising trans activism, and I have no interest in understanding why”

Re: The trans debate
1: not even trans activist organisations use “born in the wrong body” anymore. In fact, they avoid it completely, in favour of seeking to promote the idea (and enshrine it in law) that one’s body is irrelevant to whether someone is a man or woman.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 11:03 am

2: “men who act like women”
Your sexism is showing. What does it mean to “act like a woman”? Is it possible that your backwards acceptance that there are male personalities that are actually *womanly* might be regressive and misogynistic?
3: you don’t understand “intersex” conditions - nobody is both male and female, or neither male nor female. Every intersex condition is sex specific. It’s also entirely irrelevant to trans activism
Again, you have some catching up to do.
Perhaps don’t assume you know more than the left wing, progressive man who has wrestled with the subject and took it seriously in order to work out where he stands on it?
Or you can keep spouting irrelevant, outdated, sexist cliches?
