And now Elgar has gone. 2 wickets down after 1 over.

OK EN start the car
Only consolation if we lose is that we will never have to watch Rossington play another T20 again.
Lost the first three games, lost twice to Gloucestershire - we don’t deserve to qualify tbh, but losing Cox and Sam’s didn’t help.
Two brilliant 19 year olds let down miserably by a load of older crap.

Some poor bowling, poor all round from Harmer and the least sad about Rossington, Elgar and Critchley the better. One thing about captaincy tonight - I think I would've put Snater in before Harmer and Bosch. Oh well, that's the T 20 again - very disappointing. Now for the 50 and the big clear out to the 100. Hope it won't be as painful as last year.

Hampshire are doing one on us tonight, so far. That'll be the T20 Q/F's gone.
Essex still 4th , good chance of qualifying

Why won't we be seeing Rossington again on T20 (etc)?

There are 9 teams in our group so how come we didn’t play everyone twice, ie 16 games.

Out of contract at the end of this season I believe.

Fantastic knock by Khushi at Suffolk, but the rest only managed around 170 all out. I reckoned 8 were holeing out.
Not looking great for the 50 unless Khushi can score 180 every match.

You were right.
But back to the County Championship today (when the bad weather abates in Southampton). 4 wins, with plenty of bonus points a must, and 5 would be fantastic. I've just got a funny feeling, we'll only get 2 or 3. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Not looking good with one day washed out and Surrey building a substantial lead in their match.

After Surrey’s win today I’d say it’s their title to lose. I can’t see anyone catching them.
Essex have to aim for the runners up spot now.

Looks like it. Nothing seems to be able to stop Surrey now. Wonder what's going to happen to Rossington and Beard?

I can’t see Rossingtons contract being extended. Regarding Beard, it’s whether we can poach a replacement from another county. In view of the injuries to Cook and Porter this year, they will need handling delicately next season to make sure they don’t get injured.
I don’t see Pepper as the No. 1 keeper I prefer him as just a batsman. Again we might have to poach a new keeper.

I thought that before his hand injury last season when he was playing for Kent, was not Cox also supposed to be a batsman /wicket keeper ?

I'd heard that too.

Cox called up to IT20 squad. I haven't worked out how many games we'll lose him for, just when we need him. I hope we get a decent pay-off from ECB or whoever handles such matters, for this selection, to compensate us.

Hopefully, if he doesn't make the 11 he'll be on his way back to play for Essex. But given the form of the game and Cox's ability to score a lot of runs very quickly he will be more than just 'in the squad'. Beard will be 27 later this year, and has been on the scene for quite a while. I can't help feel he's gone as far as he can, and in an Essex shirt he's just not up to it. Maybe he'd have a future in another county, under a different coach. I've felt that way about Ben Allison, but was surprised and pleased to see how he handled himself in the 50, both with bat and ball. Wonder what the future may hold for Khushi and, as another season draws to a close - Browne?

Nick Browne, well can see him being around next season playing in the four day first Eleven when needed. May also branch off into doing some coaching.

Let’s hope not, his time was up years ago need to move on.Better and younger players the Browne in division Two we should be looking at as we did with Critchley.

He is still only 33 years old and still thought well of at Essex, thus in his Essex write up profile..... '' Browne became the first person to reach 200 on four occasions for Essex in First-Class cricket, hitting 234* (454) against Somerset in July 2022''
