I dont think Kenny can call himself hard done by. The facts speak for themselves. Under him, the team won 2 points out of a possible 30. In recent weeks he looked panicky, chopping and changing formations and personal, as if he was bereft of ideas and just hoping by luck, something would work out for him.
Shame because he came with a great record, but it all went wrong in December.
I'm very unhappy about Martin Lings role in all this as well. I dont think Ling is a very nice man TBH, and I dont think he's entirely truthful either, and is a toxic presence about the place. The episode with Fletcher, was a disgrace IMO. I would love to know what Kenny really thinks of Ling now .
We need a few points on the board now, and someones got to take hold of this squad and get those points, and I'm not sure who will even want to come and work for the club now
On that note about team selection some of the choices recently made me think he was almost daring the board to sack him.
Yup and it's been like this for a few weeks now, he's had that air of "you give me these players, I'll show you what happens" especially when putting a midfield of Kyprianou / Brown / Young out.
At Jackett's stage in his career he doesn't need to take any crap and knows he'll get a nice retirement fund payoff when the sacking comes. Was just a matter of time.
Something has seemed off with his demeanour for a while and the barbed comments in post-match interviews were a good indicator all is not well within the club.

Funny that. I don’t agree with much you have to say, however the same thoughts crossed my mind!
I doubt he would have stayed past this season. Now he has 3/4 months paid holiday.

A few thoughts.
1) 95% of the fan base couldn’t have been more supportive of this appointment back in the summer, myself included. It felt like exactly what we needed off the back of 2/3 very inexperienced managers.
2) Jackett was given the first XI to compete but not the squad. I was initially skeptical about the quality of our summer recruitment (looked light on goals) but turned out I was wrong in the early parts of the season.
3) Form dipped for our front players but the problem regarding squad depth has plagued us throughout. In away games particularly, we’ve been crying out for reinforcements, particularly in forward and midfield areas, KJ often had a bench of kids to turn to.
4) Injury luck has been horrendous and like London buses, all seem to come at once. At any point you could say we had 5-6 first team regulars sidelined for significant periods. Unfortunately this goes back to the lack of depth point as we didn’t cope with this well. No proper cover at centre mid and right back was a real oversight in the summer.
5) Covid situation and not playing for a month did not help but I see this as little justification for the dreadful form that came after.
6) Tactics, particularly in recent weeks have become questionable. In Jackett’s insistence on a 5 at the back formation, you must have effective wing backs for this to work, ask Antonio Conte. Bizarre choice to then to continue to play this formation with both your first choice wing backs sidelined. Perhaps even worse by attempting to play players out of position there.
7) No consistency in squad selection. Yes injuries forced his hand but good teams get out of this league through cohesion. KJ seemed to start one player and the next thing they’ve disappeared for a few weeks. See the likes of Wood, Thompson, Pratley, Ruel, Moss. Rifts perhaps?
8) January transfer window a shambles. A real opportunity to right the wrongs of above and we somehow end up taking further steps back. Someone like Frank Nouble was signed on the insistence of Kenny and that makes you question his player judgement. Whilst we also needed some players that know this league, we instead opted for 3 kids, one on loan and then Khan who looks like a decent signing so far and the pick of the bunch. Coleman and Brown may come good, but it’s not what we needed. Should have waited till the summer to bring them in and have brought in tried and tested quality in Jan.
Fair assessment?

Bang on.
Kenny Jackett is not a bad manager at all, but he's failed in this particular instance - yes lots went against him, but that happens, it's football. There are teams in the league with big injuries, in dips of bad form, but every now and then they are scraping wins putting points on the board.

I don’t really understand this hatred towards Ling. As a player he gave us decent service and nearly got us promoted. As a manager he was decent and got us promoted. As DOF he came in with the club on its knees and was an integral part of the group that got us out of NL.
He brought in Davis, Justin and KJ which all at the time seemed good appointments.
KJ got the sack as he made some bad decisions, primarily playing Drinan every game when he kept missing chances. Not sure how this is Ling’s fault. What am I missing?
You're missing nothing that I can see because I don't understand this hatred either . Martin has nothing to do with the playing side of things . That's all down to the manager and coaches . As we've just been reminded there are no guarantees with any manager we hire . It's all hit and miss .

Remember back in the Embleton days Ling told us in a Q&A he wanted the same formation and tactics used from academy through to first team hence "we play 4-3-3".
Now tell me how that squares with him having no influence on the playing side?
If he's running the academy and trying to "make money" from it does he not then have a vested interest in getting academy players into the first team ahead of senior pros from outside the club?
Does that go some way to explaining how Kyrpianou and Young ended up playing so many games this season despite not showing any signs either are ready?
(as an aside T&T have told us the academy doesn't actually break even as it stands so there was some creative accounting from ML on that front)

I have always been behind Ling, great player, excellent youth team coach, got us promoted as first team manager and as you say conjured up a decent squad to help get us out of Non League, however everyone has their time. To me it feels the time is right to slim down the football side by doing away with a DoF. We have an experienced new CEO coming in with great experience who could do a lot of what Ling does with contracts/negotiations etc.
I think having a DoF has clouded decision making and responsibilty of lates and slimming down the decision making chain can only help.
Ling a "great player"?
You absolutely sure about that?

Ling haters coming out in force.as usual. Ling played in the premiership with Swindon he came to us at the tail end of his career but was still a class above anyone else we had at the time.

This ran through my head on Tuesday night. I can’t see it, although he may end up in that bucket of “get me in quick to fix it” managers. Ironically the type clubs employ just about now off the back of a run of results like ours.
I can’t see he’ll be regarded as a long term project anymore for any league club. His reputation proceeds as a negative footballing man with antiquated methods, we’re seeing the slow death of these sorts of managers in the modern game now

Some people appreciate the contribution he has made over many years in many roles, some people you included just want to dig him out at every opportunity - it's boring and shallow. I do think it's time for the DoF role to go but lets not pretend that Ling hasn't made a very decent contribution to LOFC.

Yes, a reasonable player. Or maybe just a good player. When talking about Ling the word 'hate' is always used in defence as it supposedly strengthens the argument. So, we don't only have a 'legend' as our Dof, be reminded that he was also a 'great' player. Surely this would call for another statue alongside Laurie Cunningham in Coronation Gardens? (just laughable!)

Ling as a manager, good with a promotion to his name
Ling as initial DoF, good in the circumstances

Ling was ok as a player for us in Division 4. Too lightweight for my liking but obviously had ability.
But what the hell has that got to do with his current role? You lot are bonkers.

I saw Ling as a player, and he was see decent, but he never set the place alight.
But as I already said, it's totally irrelevant on how he is as a DOF
He's not a truthful man, and if you want I'll expand on that. He's aggressive, and his workings are flawed. However, he thinks he's God's gift, and we're lucky to have him.
Despite his denials, he interferes in things he shouldn't, he is a negative force in our club.
Now if you like him, that's fine, that's your choice, but most on here now don't like him, and that's their choice.
I accept the owners think he's fantastic and he isn't going to be sacked, but they are letting our club down, in more ways than one
You have your views and the rest of us will have ours
