Whatβs that got to do with the pros and cons of a Academy?
He hasnt made profit on his 2 clubs yet
1 of which he has been involved in since 2006.
You keep saying why waste money on an academy ,
Well why waste money not having one .
Well it all depends on using your resources effectively.
He decided to dump the Academy and has made a profit 100 m on transfers as well as making Brentford a top 6 Championship side.
He wouldnβt have done that by bringing through his own players because the best ones would have been nicked before making the first team.
So you keep saying but you are
STILL WRONG

Benham has also invested in two football clubs. In 2006 he invested in the Brentford football club, which he is now the owner of, and in 2014 he invested in the Midtjylland football club, which is he is now the majority shareholder of. Combined, Brentford has invested HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF POUNDS into these two football clubs in order to save them from financial ruin and see them flourish. Matthew Benham is now the owner of not only two companies, but also of two football clubs β he even built a stadium that seats 20,000 people.
Note the Capital letters .
He has simply regained a Β£100 million of his initial
HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS invested .

Still waiting for a view of how the cap can be dodged. Isn't there something about directors' gifts (or sponsorship perhaps) which artificially raises the declared income of the club thus raising the spending threshold?
No

Once this nonsense is kicked out will will have a premiership 2 in what is now the Championship.
If clubs want to overspend them let them get on with it, if they go bust relegate them at least two divisions.
Let the market find its level.
This ridiculous interfering never works.
Looks like I was right.
How anybody thought this wage cap nonsense would stand beggars belief.

Trouble is that doesn't happen, look at the Sheffield Wednesday FFP shambles for how it works in practice.

I started this thread, several weeks ago, and im delighted the salary cap looks like its dead & buried.
We have more chance of resigning Danny Johnston for example, because we can pay him more now

I would say that this also means there is now less chance of us resigning our better players, because the clubs in League One can now offer more money as well to play higher - Alot more than what we can probably offer being in League Two.
I will be very suprised if Vigouroux, Happe, Brophy, Johnson and probably Wilkinson aren't playing in League One next year because they'll be offered better deals to make the step up and test themselves higher.

Yep, exactly. It's very short sighted to say no cap means we have more chance of keeping players when the number of potential suitors for their services has just significantly increased along with what they can offer. Our strategy up til now has probably been to play hardball because of the cap and that leverage has now gone.

You make a lot of assumptions there
first of all Vigouroux is under contract already until summer 0f 2022. Of the rest whose contracts expire in summer 2021, why do you assume League 1 clubs will want them all?
I think many clubs in league 1, couldnt pay as much as Orient anyway......we are one of the wealthiest clubs in league 2. Im sure we can re-sign some of our out of contract players.
A club never re-signs all the out of contract players anyway, because some like to move on, but we will sign some of them.
The wage cap is pure wrong....to limit what a man can earn in leagues one & two, while Premier League players earn up to Β½ million pounds a week is plain wrong
The only ones not happy will be Travis & co, as they will have to pay more to keep, and buy decent players, in order to get us up to league 1 again

Or they could pull the plug.
Depends whether they are happy to lose 2 m per year.

To be honest, if we get promoted to league one the wages will go up but the home gate will be much the same.

I understand what you're saying and you make good points, but sadly Vigouroux is out of contract at the end of the season.
Signed an 18 month deal last Jan:

Vigouroux's contract expires this summer. I haven't said anywhere we want to keep all of the out of contract players and I haven't assumed League One teams would want all of those players - I said that the number of suitors for them will increase long with what they can offer. The assumptions seem to be coming from you. Whether you agree or disagree with a salary cap is irrelevant to the point of whether it is easier or more difficult to retain players now the situation has changed. Opening up the market and increasing the number of potential bidders and what they can offer clearly does have an impact on us being able to retain our prime assets.

True it will bring a bit more money in, the trouble is we need to attract the locals in large numbers, but history tells us that is impossible.

The football on offer has to be attractive to watch and exciting, instead of pointless boring sideways, back , sideways back that eats up lots of potential goal scoring time and pisses people off big time.
