On that same note I think people seriously underestimate how strong Sotiriou is. Just because he looks slight. Strong as an ox that one. Won't be messed around by any League 2 defenders.

Totally agree about Ling not being a flying wingback, his percentage of moving forward and passes going forward are a joke.StowieO wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:50 pmAgreed that the 'flying' Ling and Widdowson didn't work last year, but replace Ling with a new RB (not Turley) and with Brophy as LB and Wids inside - could be an attacking alternative when 4 at the back isn't working.moonwalk19 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 2:24 pm by SouthStandPete » Mon Aug 17, 2020 7:13 pm

We could always experiment with a back 5 with Turley, Happe & Widdowson as the 3 CB's and Ling and Brophy as flying wingbacks.
The 3 Centre Back strategy worked well for us in National League.
But didn't work for us in the first few months of the League 2 season. Especially with Ling & Widdowson as the wingbacks.
We need to have 2 Centre Backs and 2 Full Backs that can do their job.

Yep. Has the attitude to match too, watch him and you'll already see him 'giving it' to senior pros. He won't be intimidated physically or mentally.

Re: Team for 2020/21
I agree that defence looks stronger but I very much doubt Ross will go with that . He’ll Probably start with Ling at RB . I wish we could get Marsh back on Loan to play RB insteadRedO wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 12:11 pmWell, don't look at that defence then.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 12:06 pmLooking at that defence worries me. It’s not good enough, especially at RBThe Big Shot wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:44 pm Looks to me like Ross will be sticking to 4-3-3:
GK: Vigouroux/Sargeant
RB: Judd/Ling
CB Turley/Coulson
CB: Happe/Ogie
LB: Brophy/Widdowson
CM: Wright/McAnuff
CDM: Cisse/Kyprianou
CM: Clay/Dayton
RW: Wilkinson/Sotiriou
ST: Angol/Johnson
LW: Maguire-Drew/Dennis
Can see Brophy staying at LB after get got better there as the season went on - Personally I think he is wasted a bit there, but he has his uses.
Sotiriou will likely have to work his way back into the team after coming back late to training.
Don't think Danny Johnson is suited to one up front myself, needs to be in a two, but he may have to lead the line on his own.
As I said, can see Ross sticking to 4-3-3 with the players we currently have. Still a centre half short and a striker as well it seems.
Look at:
Vigaroux
Turley Happe Widdowson Brophy
with Cisse in front of them.
That is rock solid.

Re: Team for 2020/21
Dayton is the weak link in there, I personally wouldn't go with him.
Otherwise, give or take, I pretty much accept that's as good as it's going to get.

Re: Team for 2020/21
Its got a lot of potential going forward but might be a few games before they all understand their roles and there's potential that there's too many similar plays all bunched up top, but we will see.
Defensively I worry.

Re: Team for 2020/21
I don't think he will.
He definitely wants a bit of creativity in that spot, if not Dayton it'll be JMD or Dennis (if fit).
If he made the front 3 play narrower, it wouldn't be such an issue. There's enough creativity from Angol/RuelJMD/Wilko if they're close enough to link up with each other.

Re: Team for 2020/21
If he’s going with Dayton as one of the midfield 3, I’d go with Jobi alongside Cisse. He can obviously play but it’s the most disciplined and best defensively out of him, Clay and Wright.

Re: Team for 2020/21
When it comes to it I reckon he'll go with the party line from above and pick
Vigoroux
Ling, Coulson, Happe, Brophy
Cissé
Clay Dayton
Wilkinson, Angol, Sotiriou
The CM alongside Clay is the interesting one as there's effectively 3 players competing for it and one of Wright and McAnuff won't get much game time if Dayton stays fit as the first choice.
Still doesn't inspire much going forward and seems to restrict our attacking players rather than encouraging them to create and score goals.
