The pollution in China is really bad beyond anything I've ever seen anywhere. I remember when I was in school they showed us pictures of the london soup (fog) and it's as bad as that if not worse as its every day spring summer or winter.
If you stand in Hong Kong Harbour you struggle to see the other side.
I spoke to peoe there and they said the government will only clean up the pollution once they have finsihed the infrastructure projects they are implementing which will allow the people to feed themselves. I said but this is killing the people, he replied I know, but there's 1.3bn of us and we were dying of hunger now we are dying of pollution. When it's done we will be ok and then clean up will begin, but until then it will continue.
Fantasy post lol I was in HK not long ago could see fine over the harbour the 2 weeks I was there
Don’t believe everything Mr. Miyagi is telling you

Pop over to Beijing. Prior to the Olympics they restricted vehicles in the centre to reduce pollution, image is everything.
Have been to Hong Kong and I did detect some haze, though not like Beijing. Maybe like the London smogs, which I remember as a boy, it only happened at certain times of the year. But because much of the time visibility was fine, it certainly don’t mean it never happened. It did.
Maybe if you spent more than two weeks there you would have seen it for yourself.

What does XR have to do with Hong Kong?
Events scheduled early October.
We're in mid-October now?

Gotta say on the discussion above though, I was in HK in April and Thor appears to be describing somewhere else entirely.

Yup but the events were scheduled when I said, have no idea if they took place. On their website.

Some people assume because they didn't see it in the days they were there it never happens. The point I was making about the London Smog. didn't happen every day, but it happened and it was terrifying. If memory serves it started the smokeless zone coal requirements. Back in the day when many houses had coal fires.

So you think it’s ok to wreck a building do you? Maybe it’s acceptable in your life, it’s not in mine.
I didn’t say it was.
I just said you were spouting bollox that you were on board with them up until this allegedly happened.

No I’m still backing them as we need to change what we do. However, there is no justification for smashing property up, no justification whatsoever and all it does is question what they really are up to. Cos today it seems like the May Day stuff when the anarchists smash up central London and big business.
I was speaking to someone in central London yesterday and they said when they got to work some of these people had glued themselves to the front door so all staff had to go through a side entrance. What is the point in that?

So if I wish to protest about pollution and smash up your car, you would be fine about it. Fair enough.

I’m not sure that is taught is schools back then or even now. Maybe you need to be in a special left wing school to be taught that? Like Hogwarts, but named something Marxists Secdondary Modern.

Try 90% of Indonesia for haze/pollution and it affects at least 60% of South East Asia

Interestingly for the first time ever renewable energy sources generated more electricity than fossil fuels in the UK. That is an amazing achievement. First time on record, since 1882. Renewable energy increased fourfold since 2010. Net zero target by 2050.
Suggests to me the UK are taking this stuff seriously.
The trick to me seems getting some other countries to do the same. Perhaps Extinction Rebellion should protest in Beijing. Now that would be interesting.

The reality is working in the city you take public transport, outside of that I don't do too many miles if I'm honest. Three of my cars did less than a 1,000 miles between them last year for example. The family car did about 10k.
Take today, its rubbish day, I take pride every week that I put out the most recycling in my road. Not because I consume the most, but because I recycle absolutely everything and my wheelie bin which I believe goes to landfill has rarely got much in it.

Trouble is Nut, trying to do it yourself is proper expensive, it's not realistic to expect people to do the work to make their house zero carbon efficient. You could do away with any heating bill with a ground source heat pump, cost starting at 15k, payoff is about 13 years most people won't be in there house that long and will struggle to finance it.
The government if its serious needs to help people.
