A couple of polls have put Kennedy as a third party candidate at between 13-17%. This is a man who has said he thinks COVID vaccinations were created to favour Ashkenazi Jews. They - and by extension we and the rest of the world - are f*cked.

This is a case of a single state unilaterally disqualifying a candidate for a national election. It compromises the veracity of the federal system. And, as ever, once it happens against a candidate you don't like it can then be weaponised against anyone.

It's possible that, regardless of who wins the next election, up to 30% of the population may not accept the outcome of that election. Not just be dissatisfied with it, but actively refuse to accept it and possibly even deploy low-level civil disobedience. That is a crisis of legitimacy that could undermine key institutions. And this ruling does nothing to reduce that legitimacy risk.
30% of the population could deploy low-level civil disobedience? Seriously?
"up to 30%"

So, if there was to be civil disobedience, that would probably be worst case scenario. Reality is likely to be a lot less.
You're not supposed to admit to being ridiculously overly dramatic, you're supposed to double down and/or call me a c*nt.

You've changed.

Trump could murder a bus full of nuns and the idiots in the MAGA cult would still vote for him. In their eyes he can do no wrong and everything he says is true. Any bad news about him is fake news. It’s funny to watch them talk at rallies but also frightening

You can thank the Democrats for that. Making everything so clearly politically motivated now people think everything is a hatchet job .

Didn't Trump start that with the check her emails campaign against Hilary?

Some concerning numbers for Joe :~

Trump (who outperforms his poll numbers) polling ahead of the margin of error. Especially when third party candidates are offered.

If the prediction that inflation owing to maritime disruption in the Red Sea turn out be correct, that could occur in the summer during the run up to the election. Trump will be only too happy to use that as another stick to beat Biden.

Could be good news for those who want less US intervention around the world.

Why will Americans elect him again?
Why wont the Democrats choose a new leader who isnt an octogenarian?

Looks like an absolute hatchet job but there's probably no way back from going on telly to try and persuade everyone you're not actually senile.

Biden has been like that for a while now, sad to see, can't see him standing for election in November after this latest round of gaffes.

A man of his age shouldn't be standing for election in a functioning democracy. Same goes for Trump.

I don't follow American politics that closely when Democrats are in charge because things seem to settle down a bit (at least domestically) in those periods. But watching the BBC documentaries on the war in Ukraine, I was taken aback a bit by just how old he looks and acts. It is like watching your granddad - constant reminders of the charm and intellect they have, but hard to ignore how doddery and fragile they are.

So the yanks choice is either someone approaching senility with a competent team of technocrats behind him, or Trump and the insanity that comes with that. V grim.

Making gaffes doesn't seem to be a precursor to not standing for election.

Seemingly not, but in Biden's case his obvious cognitive decline and the effect that has on how he presents in public should signal the end of his political career and he should enjoy his retirement with his family.

He does indeed look like he should be fronting a Werther's Original campaign but I don't understand how Trump seems to get a pass on the "approaching senility" front, he's going to be 78 in June and has a spectacular back catalogue of ridiculous mistakes and gaffes. He's every bit as old and unsuitable - even aside from his politics and temperament - he just has better hair, a tan and some Botox and thus looks less like a ghost.
