Lucky 7, not bitter or humorless , in fact my unmitigated humor often, according to my wife, gets me into trouble , but I always respond to people trying unsuccessfully to be smart. If someone Insults me then I respond. That said you are one prize xxxx

"If you're a Tory and you just participated in #ClapForTheNHS, there's no polite way to say this, you can just f*** right off.

You people spent an entire decade wantonly slashing the NHS budget for purely ideological reasons, closing hospitals, A&E units, maternity wards, and walk-in centres, you had a vicious pitched battle with the junior doctors, you scrapped the NHS bursary meaning new NHS nurses have to rack up tens of thousands in unpayable student debts, you got rid of 17,000 NHS hospital beds, you drove tens of thousands of EU citizens out of working in the NHS with your Brexit bollocks, you've flogged off £millions in NHS property to private developers, you've handed £billions in NHS services to unscrupulous private profiteers ... and the last time you sick Tory freaks clapped and cheered in relation to the NHS was when your beloved Tory lords and masters in parliament gleefully denied NHS and emergency service workers a pay rise just days after the Grenfell Tower catastrophe.

How dare you pretend to care about the NHS now, just because you fear that you might suddenly be needing their services?

Don’t forget the Tories who cheered in the commons when the nurses pay rise was refused a few years ago

He is NOT one of those Scottish taxi drivers that does charitable work for disadvantaged kids, his claim to fame is that the tosser once waved a £10 fare. The fact that he is prepared to come on here and boast about it says everything about him.
I wasn't boasting.

You acused me of not being altruistic.

I am.

There are many more examples of how I have supported my working class community. Including contributing to the cost of a funeral of a regular customer whose child died and supporting the local Foodbank.

There are other examples of free fares I have done. I don't need you to question me or my values. I live them.

Do you? If so, what are they?

Absolutely correct lucky 7, that’s because I have the unique blend of professional know how and East end street brutality.
A sharp mind and a ruthless streak. Despite that, I am everyone’s favorite uncle. Mr nice guy.
Max g, you are either drunk or have serious memory lapse. YOU WERE THE FIRST TO INTRODUCE THE INSULT ‘IMBECILE.’
In fact the first insult came from you when you called me a willy, to which I responded by calling you a dickhead...
Do you not recall that. Think, no, think harder.....oh, o.k. I understand.
Maxie boy, I give more to causes I believe in than you earn, so don’t challenge me.

That 'clap' for the NHS is really just a gesture akin to ticking a 'like' on social media.
The person who initiated it maybe has aspirations to become somebody big on social media and the people who obey and clap feel good for having 'done' a good thing.

Then the BBC reports it with glee and the general public gets a cosy feeling that 'all is ok'.

I guess that this really is quite useless for NHS staff. What they want is decent pay, respect from their employers, all the necessary equipment to do their job safely, the pleasure derived from having helped a patient.

and what do you know or are you just presuming again . Take a look round our hospital car park , lots of new cars there . As far as the hospital is concerned we have enough equipment in normal times but I suppose your one of those who would have 50 snow ploughs lined up in case it ever snows again in London.
Equipment ,especially electronic equipment goes out of date very quickly and there aren't enough areas to store the sort of equipment we would require . Take off your rose tinted specs and stop playing politics or just grow up eh !!
Not into getting into a personal argument, in these times. Stop being so aggressive.
If you think the nhs have been funded properly, and they have all they need on a normal day then you’re deluded, naive, stupid or have you’re own rose tinted glasses on.

Blimey, this thread's taken a bit of a turn.

If people want to show appreciation for the NHS, what is the problem?

It doesn't mean there aren't other problems, it doesn't help solve those problems. That is plain and obvious.

But - if one stressed-out NHS worker/modern day hero felt a little bit better on hearing it, then it's a good thing.

I think they get a discount on tickets, or they used to and I know our club are usually very good at This type of thing anyway.
I heard that Brighton are giving away 1,000 tickets next season for example.
I’ve just come back from my street door was pleasantly surprised that most of my neighbours were out joining in with the clapping.
Heard zero on Whipps X Road
There's hardly any houses on whipps x road cos a hospital is there.

Personally I don't have a problem if people want to clap and from what I've seen and heard from people who do work in the NHS, it was appreciated by many. As said above, that doesn't excuse the government one iota. Link below to comments from the Editor of Lancet.
