The thing is, if you are wearing your jogging bottoms whilst watching the soaps, it makes you feel that you are virtually keeping fit.

Re: Sports Direct
Also: Pets at Home,Pet U Like, Pets World, Pets & Spencer, etc are essential. I live at home alone & my dog keeps me reasonably healthy for a 72 year old. She listens to me. Encourages me to be fit, tells me it is time for walkies, growls through the door at undesirables etc. Please don't be so curmudgeonly, that you deprive us old folk of our companions also people that live alone. Even a budgie keeps some people sane. When you are self-isolating like me, it is also quite hard to get hold of dog food. Most is tinned & they are very easy to hoard. Wilko's are doing a quite good job of home delivery, although they charge £5 (I do a shipping order that includes household cleaners and stuff for personal hygiene. My dog would hate it, if I had dog's breath!

Re: Sports Direct
Couldn't get a dog due to work commitments.I thought it would be unfair that I wasn't there.Perhaps when I retire,if I do.
Had a cat twenty years ago but had to have her put down.Awful.Never really got over it.Misunderstood how unwell she was.

Re: Sports Direct
I haven't got a problem with what's open it's just keeping people apart which needs to be done.Although essential shops only will cut down how many people are around.
Just heard Halfrauds is open also.Should be able to keep my seven bikes working over this crisis. Not that I'd use Halfrauds anyway.
I remember buying a bike from them in the early 1990's and when I got home I realised the front wheel bolts hadn't been tightened.
Still if I had fallen off I would just have got up and carried on as usual.(Or limped away if possible)
It's a motorist shop though and not a specalised cycle shop.So I very rarely use it.

Re: Sports Direct
Sports direct are now not opening. I personally can see some sort of logic in it but they maybe should've said that we're only opening a 1/4 of the stores.
Saying that maybe they should scrap their delivery charges for the time being then people could have the equipment delivered.
Pet shops i totally agree with animals are the only company that some elderly people have.
However I went for a walk round the park the other day and the only case of more than a couple of people talking were a batch of elderly dog walkers who were standing together while their dogs ran around this was for at least 10 minutes.

Re: Sports Direct
I'm definitely not saying pets aren't important, but there isn't anything essential that Pets at Home sell that you can't buy elsewhere or online, and yes I do go there occasionally to get hay for the chickens.
Please correct me if I've got this wrong.
If we're going to beat this thing we have to close every shop that isn't ESSENTIAL, because at the end of the day people can't be trusted to stay away from each other and not touch stuff.

Re: Sports Direct
Three fixies (two other charge plug and a no-logo cheap bike bought from ebay)...changed the weels and a few other components.Got the cheap flimsy crap off)...Three Dawes Audaxes and a Brompton.Got a bit over run,but you know what it's like.Don't want to get rid.Spent many happy times together and at one time when I was a neighbour to a looney I used one as a barricade for my front door. One Dawes Audax bought in 2006 after a crash into three pedestrians in Walthamstow wrote my aliminium Cannondale off (Evans found a fracture in the frame but whether it was caused by the collision cannot be confirmed).Luckily the pedestrians were ok (didn't hit them direct on just a glancing hit as I swerved) and I fell off.Almost managed to avoid them when they run from the other side of the road till they stopped right in front of me.The other is a Charge Plug Grinder I bought off of ebay last year and collected from Barkingside.LittleMate wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 10:43 amSeven bikes? Oh plus the Charge Plug fixie which I crashed into the small bit of pavement dividing the cycle lane with the road at Bow Road tube station on 31/12/2019 and is unsafe but ok as a spare for the turbo trainer bike with which the bottom bracket may go at any time and I doubt whether I can fix as it's been on there for over two years and done many miles.

Re: Sports Direct
What is essential can be a contentious issue.
Are shoe shops essential?...most would say no....but what happens if my only pair of shoes split, and i have no others? Surely then shopping for shoes is essential.
what about garages? In 4 weeks I need an MOT...will I be able to get it done? If not, I cant drive my car to the food store, so I starve. Does that make MOT stations essential?
Could go on all day about what is and what isnt essential, but it all depends on the circumstances at any given time. What isnt essential one day, may well be essential on another day
