We live in strange times!

Coronavirus officially arrived here in Norfolk yesterday. It’s the same here re the toilet rolls and selected other stuff. We’re ok for them as we have the room and always keep a stock of non-perishable items (especially when price appeals) and freezers full anyway, it’s just the way we operate, but appreciate we’re lucky compared to many. Was chatting to one of the cleaners at work, he and his wife don’t have the internet, they only ever shop weekly as have limited room, and some stuff they need is not on the shelves, people like that really get hit at such times.

At work, one day it sounds like we’re going to be asked to work from home, then someone twigs the network wouldn’t cope if all us with laptops did, frantic efforts going on to sort, but I think it’s coming and it may be quite soon. Had my usual evening out with a mate in town on Friday, was some big Elvis do on at one of the pubs; the Wetherspoons was heaving as usual; and one thinks it’s going to likely become a ghost town in the next few weeks.

Our county. Putting the madness about panic buying aside, which is becoming understandable because we all want to be prepared, the UK government is putting more of us at risk. They are at odds with almost every other country. I work in a school and on Friday a few of us were observing the behaviour of the kids and staff. Schools will be infected on mass. We have no hand sanitizers (no money to buy them either), kids move around classes, as a faith school, kids come from a wide area and most come on public buses. We expect the classes will get smaller as parents decide it's too risky to send the kids in. The government stance that they shouldn't close as many kids will be looked after by elderly family members is laughable. In 3 weeks those family members would need to look after them during the Easter holidays. Come Monday week, many schools will close because staff wont want to be the fodder for this crazy plan. The right thing to do is work with the schools who could provide staff to cover the small about of kids whose parents work in the NHS.

But kids aren’t getting it though so why close the schools? Cos like you say the grandparents are normally the ones looking after the kids as both parents generally work.

What is your argument? If kids don't get it, then grandparents should be safe?
Kids do get it, they will show no or mild symptoms and pass it on.
In 3 weeks they will need to be looked after because its the Easter Holidays.

At the moment the UK is doing one thing, the rest of world another.

Not good here in Ireland - all pubs closed until further notice. I work in home furnishings retail I expect to be laid off tomorrow. Quite looking forward to spending quality time at home to work on my boarding cycling, walking and cooking.

Yes, I have read this story. Unbelievable (Well nothing that con man does is unbelievable). He wants to claim that the vaccination was developed in the USA and it was apparently for US use only.

I'm back in Ireland. Apart from shops almost everything is closed and as you know no sport to watch to keep away the boredom. It has to be done. We have never experienced these times. This is a time to keep your distance, keep your kids away from older relatives especially anybody with an underlying condition. The USA is f*cked as the horse has already bolted and with Boris in UK and the mess it is creating with schools closed on one part of the island and schools open in the remaining part of the island. I am thinking what did Ireland do to deserve to be in between Britain and the USA at this time?

The US is already on a trajectory that is worse than Italy.

The UK is not testing people until after 7 days of symptoms.

I'm surprised no-one is making more of this request from the government to speed up the production of ventilators.

I'm no doctor, but I presume a ventilator is quite a complicated piece of medical kit that has to function perfectly all of the time. The idea that companies that aren't in the ventilator business could, at a moments notice, turn their hands to knocking these out seems fanciful at the very least.

Since this has already cropped up, I'm guessing ventilators must be in pretty short supply anyway. Do you give the ventilator to the 75 year old or the 40 year old? Choices, choices.

Maybe because China took isolation seriously - people were isolated away their homes and family, away from everyone, even if they weren't confirmed positive. That's not happening here.

My argument was to keep them in school thus sparing the grandparents from having to cover the school exclusion time. As they (GParents) will be moving around less then the chances of getting must surely decrease?

In respect to the the kids not getting it, I heard it on the radio, specifically on LBC. I’ve found a news report which supports what I was saying.
