I don't understand why flu (a virus from animals) is not classed as a pandemic (maybe because they don't name it after a beer). Average Uk deaths 17000, 3% chance of dying. So around 1% of the population 500,000+ catch this every year.

So Corona is insignificant currently. But why are governments so scarred?
Probably because of going to see there Dominatrix's !

I reckon your figures are wrong. How likely is it that you are right about this and the experts are wrong?

A pandemic is the worldwide spread of a disease, so by definition flu is not a pandemic unless its a new strain that is spreading rapidly all over the world (as swine flu did, for example).

The major difference is that flu generally isn't an epidemic all over the world at the same time (again, excepting swine flu and the like). The flu season covers a number of months each year, which means that the very large number of cases are spread out over a long period of time. Also, flu is less infectious, whereas COVID-19 is spreading rapidly all over the world at the same time - hence why a relatively advanced health system like Italy's can be overwhelmed in a matter of a couple of weeks.

It's the potential to rapidly spread to millions all over the world at the same time that's the issue, hence the need to slow down the transmission (it can't be contained now).

Same for me, as you can imagine GP's are probably at high risk and are needed to help with this. Last thing they want are GP's to get it.

I went in to a supermarket today, around lunchtime I guess, and the toilet roll isle was absolutely cleared out, not one roll was left. I saw people with them in their trolleys so it must have just happened before then. It was like locusts had gone through the isle, totally and utterly bare.

Except of course locusts don't eat toilet paper and even if they did they would struggle to get the plastic packaging off. So probably nothing like how you have described it.

Lay off the Locusts mate.
