Seriously though, this virus could cause major issues with those doing GCSE/ A Levels / University exams etc this spring/ summer

My Daughter is taking A Levels this year, She is preparing to take them as per the timetable but aware that if things escalate as is likely she may be taking them over the summer months instead - not a big deal for her given the bigger picture, more revision and less summer holiday but hey ho.

Uni's are going to have to be well organised to handle the new intake at short notice but I'm sure they will cope as we all will.

Anyone with kids taking A levels this year will know that every exam this year has taken through school has been affected by something or other, curiculam changes, Grading boundary changes it's been one thing after another.

Problem may be that for example.. the SE has Corona outbreak in May, NW in June, SW in July, Ne in August Midlands later.

When do pupils sit exams as all need to do them at same time
3 Weeks middle of May to early June. It will be the major conurbations that suffer most in this outbreak it's going to be a difficult one for sure.

This from the National Geographic

Covid-19 has 90% dna of Sars

Sars disappeared in the warmer months

To early for the experts to say whether Covid-19 will follow the same pattern

Fingers crossed 🤞 it does

link?
I'm sure it will emerge soon enough.
My daughters school sent out an email yesterday updating parents on what’s happening. Work packs are being prepared, on line work is being prepared, IT resources are being beefed up as whilst it remains as is they are preparing for the worst.

I feel sorry for the kids doing exams this year they will be proper messed up.

OK, but I have to go out and buy a few hundred bog rolls first or I'll never survive.

No it doesn't, neither contains any DNA, and just for context the human genome is 90% the same as a cats.

The amount of nonsense on this thread is at a similar level.

Were closer to 98 %

Think pigs is the closest at about 98.8 or something.

Thank you Bill Bryson .

Tuffers, it depends how and what you're counting, the point, i think also made by Bill Bryson, is it's largely meaningless.

Of course it shares lots in common with other vituses and for a variety of reasons warm weather will help but saying it's 90% identical to SARS like there is an obvious conclusion to draw from it is nonsense.

I don't claim any great knowledge, but knowing the difference between DNA and RNA was GCSE in my day.

Because virus' struggle to survive in warm weather? Their protective layer melts away at a certain temp I think...something like that.

Someone said to me that the virus can't survive temperatures over 27 deg C, apparently. BUT The human body is about 37 deg, isn't it? and the virus seems to be doing OK in there

People keep saying it'll help when it's warmer but don't explain why.

People huddle together indoors less, they open windows when they are. Direct sunlight rather than heat kills viruses quickly. People don't pull scarves around their faces that they haven't been washed in yonks. Whole lot of little things rather than it being a specific temperature.

Sunlight seems to be the main thing:

Would account for why southern hemisphere is getting hit way less severely (at the moment!)
