Bob Dylan
I heard on the radio like a rolling stone today and I thought about his influence in music over the years. My old man used to tell me he was a genius and many in the music industry often quote his being as a massive reason why they exist as musicians.
There are many on here who were around during his era, so what was it that bob had exactly? How highly do you rate him and will his music last forever?

Bob Dylan
How can the life of such a man Be in the palm of some fool's hand ? To see him obviously framed Couldn't help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land Where justice is a game. - "Hurricane"
Great poets are known to comment on society and cultural phenomena without losing the soulfulness of their voice. Dylan was a pioneer in giving a voice to a time and a generation that was experiencing much social unrest.
His music became anthems and protest calls for civil rights, and he was able to effectively comment on society the way no one could through words.

Re: Bob Dylan
I have never bought any of his albums or singles but he was very influential from the late sixties onwards. One of the best cover versions of one of his songs has racked up 150 million plus views on Youtube so far.

Re: Bob Dylan
Agreed, they made his studio work palatable, but live he was one of the worst performers i've ever seen.

Re: Bob Dylan
I remember seeing a documentary on Robert Dylan a few years back. Cocky little sod. Right up himself.

I remember Dylan off of the telly. He was a hippy rabbit with a guitar. Was he related to Bob?

Re: Bob Dylan
Dylan's influence is incalculable. One of the major artists of the 20th century in any artistic field. I can only speak for myself and, for me, his enduring greatness lies largely in the fact that his songs bear repeated listens, In many of them you can find different interpretations even after you think you know them inside out. If you really feel you don't like his music you should try simply reading some of his songs as poetry/stories. Some of the imagery he uses is quite brilliant. I openly acknowledge that he is well past his creative peak and that he has done his fair share of dross but when he's good no one is as compelling as Dylan. No one at all.
