Experience

Post by Ronnie Hotdogs »

DoF - Martin Ling - bundles at L2 and non league level.

Head coach - Ross Embleton - various roles within football academies (not sure if any were full time or not), 18 months as assistant first team coach in first proper role at Swindon after surprise appointment in November 2015 by Martin Ling, 2 years as coach at Orient after appointment by Martin Ling.

Assistant head coach - Dean Brill - none whatsoever.

Other assistant coach - Jobi MacAnuff - none whatsoever.

Head scout - Steve Foster - 5 years part time scouting 16-21 year olds for various clubs academies.

I’m noticing a trend here.

Your point is what exactly?

How much experience did you have when you got your first managerial role?

My point is quite clear, isn’t it?

The group in charge of the playing side of our club are seriously lacking in experience across the board. Ling excluded, obviously.

This can’t be normal can it?

When I first took over as manager of Forest Green Rovers on CM03 I had zero experience. Yet I had them winning the Champions League within a few seasons.

Believe.

Brill was a coach before Justin brought him out of retirement.

Good point, I forgot that Dean Brill had 3 months experience as a goalkeeping coach at Leyton Orient after being appointed back in 2017 prior to being made assistant coach at Leyton Orient in 2019 by Martin Ling.

Eddie Howe had no experience .

Could make a long list of managers with no experience

At some point every managerial great ( and every managerial flop) had no experience of their role

Imagine bringing Eddie Howe into this

I haven't said that any managerial great had experience of their role prior to getting their first job.

What is true is that the managerial greats will have done their time at lesser roles, under experienced bosses, before getting their first chance.

It's not 'moaning', it's highlighting the lack of experience in the group as a collective. I'm sure they're all grateful of the chance but it's not fair on them.

I find that both arrogant and naive
Owners never said he was a moaner.

They said it didnt feel right.
The place was unhappy.

Good owners see wrongs & change them quuckly.

I mean just because he got enough money invested hoping for a return one day it does not mean he knows much about football particularly as he a foreign national brought up in another country
Is he not entitled to an Optimistic opinion ?
Is the only option to be a miserable pessimist?

Whats a Foreign National got to do with anything
Pele
Maradonna
Pocchetino
Klopp
Etc etc

All would be Foreign Nationals .

Ling surrounding himself with people who lack experience to please his ego and to calm his insecurities i suspect.

Cant have anyone challenging what you say, or having the experience/knowledge to challenge. See Danny Webb.

aaah trust Wumble to come up with another inaccurate assessment. A man so balanced he has a chip on both shoulders.

The constant "you've never been a manager so cannot comment". Its akin to watching thousands of hours of films and not being able to say you liked one, or you didnt. No ones saying they could do a better job, get a grip.

but at the same time, the same people often advance the "but he's a fan!" argument as one of the primary defences of him.

Well, so are we, so...

"If Embleton can manage Orient, so can I"
