Team for next season
Vigaro
Turley Marvin Happe Brophy
Wilkinson Cisse New CM JMD
Ruel Angol
Subs/squad
Janata
Judd
Widdowson
Sweeney
Ogie
Coulson
Hector
Clay
Jobi if he proves himself before the end of this season
Dennis
Get rid (somehow)
Sarge
Ling
Marsh
DYton
Wright
Harold
Johnson
There is the makings of a half decent starting eleven in this squad when they’re all fit and if Ross stops pissing about with formations. We just need that new midfielder so that we can go back to 4-4-2.
I really like the Brophy/JMD partnership. I also think Connor could work on the right of a 4 man midfield with someone as solid as Turley behind him. But I’d happily settle for a decent left back with Brophy ahead of him and JMD on the right wing.

Re: Team for next season
Assuming we're stuck with 4-3-3...
Also assuming Ekpiteta and Happe leave over summer, as seems quite possible from what people reported from the manager evening.
Vigoroux
New LB
New CB
New CB
New RB
New CM
Cissé
Wright
JMD / Brophy
Wilkinson
Sotiriou
Subs:
Sargeant
Widdowson
Turley
Clay
Angol
Johnson
Dennis (if still here next season)
Reserves:
Ling
Kyprianou
Ogie
Sweeney
Would put Turley in as one of the first-choice CBs but not sure how far reaching his latest injury is and hope we don't rush him back. We looked a lot more secure with him in the side and the guy has a presence and leadership we lack.
Transfer-list Coulson if possible, he struggles with L2 so a move somewhere he can be first choice and free up wages here might be better all round. Unlikely to happen though.
Similarly Judd needs a new challenge to flourish, seems he won't get it here and having two small, often injured RBs isn't great. Marsh isn't the answer there either. Turley is our best option from what we have but sounds like he prefers CB.
That 4-3-3 is so narrow though, would love us to return to 4-4-2, in which case we need a couple of wingers to replace Dayton and McAnuff. Would like another CM to give Wright more of a challenge but budget wouldn't stretch that far, hopefully Kyprianou can kick on next season like Sotiriou has this year.

Re: Team for next season
Not much room for new players really is there?
I'm not sure about Brophy at LB in a 4. Especially if JMD is ahead of him, who isn't known for getting back and covering. Not convinced Turley will ever be fully fit after a couple of bad injuries and age.
If it was up to me i'd get a new LB, a new RB, a proper right winger and a new striker (that wont happen).
I'd be interested to go out of the box and play Brophy up front with someone like Angol who can hold the ball. His pace means he could always get in behind, and we could play on the counter. It would also mean that he doesn't have to cross the ball!

Dennis needs a chance to prove himself.
Coulson is fine as cover.
Angol is obviously staying.

Re: Team for next season
Strange thread..........Im sick of this seasons offerings, i find it hard to believe people are thinking about next season
Next season will be the same as this season, struggle and crap football, while Ling is doing the recruiting, and Embleton the managing
Why should it be any different, with the same two in charge?

How is it strange?
This season is over. We ain't going down. And we're obviously not going to go up. There is nothing to think about other than next season.

Re: Team for next season
Little doubt we need some quality (or better than current quality) new faces if we want to progress. And when we get them, play them in their best (i.e. proper) positions. Otherwise more of the same next season, and hope for another Stevenage and only 1 down.

Re: Team for next season
For once I find myself in agreement with COYO's only as far though that it is a strange thread.
Here we are safe from relegation after what has been a tough season mentally after losing our leader & there is still talk of relegation next season
Of course improvements have to be made to the squad as that's what all sport is about. Improving year on year. So far the club under the current owners have delivered why would things be any different next year.
Too much negativity from people who wouldn't have an idea how to run a football club, negotiate a contract, sign a player, take a training session etc. & too many people too eager to write off individuals at the club.
Travis, Teague, Macklin, Ling, Embleton, Foster et Al are all doing a good job under the circumstances.

Re: Team for next season
June three years ago, we were almost having to start again in the Essex Senior League.
So with no players and hardly any staff, we have done superb to get to where we are now. That cannot be denied.
Not saying that we all dont want to be doing better but we do need to remember where we came from. I am sure these Directors will push us onward and upward..
