Christ anyone can select formations.Thats why I won so much on Football Manager.
I think many fans over-estimate themselves.

Yet ask Fans to tell you what formation was being played most wouldnt know .Ornchurch wrote: βMon Feb 17, 2020 3:50 pmCobblers. If you have watched and/or played football for a number of years you know enough about tactics and formations etc. to be able to hold a conversation with people involved in the game and question some things. They might have a bit of paper saying what they know but there are no 'rocket scientists' managing/coaching in football. That's why they all fail and get sacked at some point.Millennial Snowflake wrote: βMon Feb 17, 2020 3:44 pmJust watching football for a long period of time won't make you know as much about football as someone involved in the game, sorry
Trouble with sport , formations arent all that important.
Yes as an initial set up & getting the best general
Positioning from your players but thats about it .
I cant go & play that ball boss because it means ive left the 442.& its making it 433
I dont want to run back there coz it would make it 451 .
Help boss i cant kick that ball because we are in 352 & id have to make it 3411
Ah boss Help me my head hurts
All those cleverer fans are going to moan at us boss .

Re: Who is the very aggressive "fan"?
Despite all the coaching badges sometimes managers are guilty of overthinking things as Ling said in the Q&A. You can convince your own mind that playing a CB at LB is a good idea, for instance but the average fan just calls players to go in their native spots. Similarly with crying out for physical presence in CM and finally getting CissΓ©, who has made a big difference.
Slade had one such scenario, he persisted over and over with his "wonky" 4-5-1 formation when the fans were crying out for 4-4-2. In the end got forced to change because of injury, brought in Odubajo and the rest was history.
In more recent times Ling / Davis with the youth goalkeepers was the most glaring example of it - JE came in and did what many of the "moaners" were crying out for and look at the difference. I still remember the howls of "back the young players" and "you're not a manager so why should they be dropped" even now.
Sometimes you see examples of tactical genius where you sit back in awe and go "yup, that's a professional showing their nous" but at other times it's doing the simple stuff. Not sure if Jobi is still doing it in the post-Webb setup but having a coach sitting in the stand with an elevated view of the game always seemed a sensible idea to me, far better to see what's really going on than pitch-side imo.

The "Unusual" that you seek defining
In simple terms we had an excellent experienced manager Justin - he passed away
1. The extreme collective grief / early promotion /and existing playing staff ongoing contract obligations is my basic definition of unusual.
2 The prolonged interview replacement which everybody thought was for an expierenced manager resulted in a person chosen that lasted 29 days and then paid off - that too is rather unusual.
3. The ongoing and not sequenced selection of Ross after he clearly told everyone in an extensive interview more than once is that he thought he should not be the manager that again is unusual as he then a few weeks later was approached by the board to reconsider and was offered the job - that too was unusual as he has never been a manager - and the original remit was to recruit an expierenced manager

This whole thread could have been avoided if Boarders had acted more professionally by ignoring the cack posts completely and walking away from the keyboard.
One more reason why some Boarders should be ignored and this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

Let's gets this straight my views are mine and from my perspective- your classification of " complain " is your personal view of my posts.
I can't waste any more time explaining to you my views on both which if you read everything I have ever written includes words not aligned with " complain" but empathy.
Don't confuse "complaining " to a person alternative view.
My core and prime comment is ling compromised and promoted Ross to satisfy his own personal feelings or desire rather than demonstrate publicly that lofc best interests were used in his logic.
He appears to of based and over emphasised his personal friendship and appeared not to of supported Fletcher in any way including executing a latent investigation.
To conclude he was rude re fletcher to a point of ridicule including demeaning him and his career with low grade words in an inarticulate presentation.
It all become rather tiresome reading your posts when lofc win exploding into proclaiming Ross is the best thing to a gold nugget but when we lose using data comparisons based on Fletcher dismal record in a period when it's bloody obvious that the coaches or players ganged up on him to assist his early departure
I mean to lose to Maldon is a prime example and it was reported Fletcher said nothing at half time - he knew the score of then as a group and he as an expienced football high grade player and club and country captain knew he was damned and doomed - he ain't no fool
Christ ive heard some conspiracy theories in my time
but youve just gone to another level.
As David Coleman Used to say
Errrrrrrrrrr Remarkable .

" I cant work out what formation we.are playing".
A fan should not be.concerning themselves with such things
A Fan should concern themselves with making as much effort to support hjs team
as is possible.

If you look how teams line up at kick off it normally gives you a MASSIVE CLUE.Prestige Worldwide wrote: βTue Feb 18, 2020 10:41 pm I like to know where on the pitch players are supposed to be.
But as football is a game of interupted fluidity ( we have the ball then they get it, we get it back etc etc)
positioning can change depending where the ball is at a particular time .
P.S if the bloke in our team in the different coloured shirt is in the opposition box
for 85 minutes of the game , tactically we are inept.

Ah see therein lies the difference between a fan and a supporter. The latter claps and cheers whatever the score, whatever the performance, not really concerned on the football itself but more the idea of being part of the "family club". I'm personally in the former category, Orient is my team but I go to watch the football, not for all the other stuff that goes on around it.

They are the same thing.
The need to know formations & discussion of said formations are just things people who truly support , yet really dont understand the Near non existantant nuance of football.
Its a simple game , over comoplicated by people.
