Credit to Ross he proved me wrong by showing he does have the minerals to drop Wright, which I do beleive was the right decision.
I wanted to discuss amongst fellow fans what I beleive I saw last night. I liked the possession football we played, we controlled the tempo (I’ll come back to this point) we moved it around quite well and I read that we had something like 70% possession in the first half. Could well be true and if it was correct that’s impressive. So to me there was a big improvement in keeping the ball, keeping it on the floor and moving it from right to left and vice a versa. However, the tempo was way to slow for what we were trying to do. If we are to play that style then we need to move the ball quicker, it needs to ping in quickly to the players and by that quick movement will allow us to stretch the play, create space and then allow us to play through the gaps we create. By moving the ball in the slow manner we did allowed them to get back behind he ball and nullify what we were trying to do. If we had moved with pace we could have been five up with that sort of possession stat.
A lot of negative things have been said about our play recently and I’ll say that I’ve said that myself however, I’m starting to see a pattern to our play and an identity, whilst it’s still early days you can see the progression Ross the boss is trying to formulate. He still needs to work on it and speed of movement of the ball and the players should be the next thing he works on. Playing a better team than last night would be an issue if we are that slow against such a team as they will be able to nullify us even easier than what we saw last night.
So for me it’s a step in the right direction and I hope to see further work on the shape, the pattern of play and tactics in the coming games.

Good to hear. I'd really like Ross to implement his own style and ideas.
Still wont be convinced until we manage to dominate possession against a top half team though.

Re: Last Night
I hear what you say Thor, as I too am always pleased when we have more possession. But the most important thing we can't do is create chances. Just like Saturday, we again had less shots on target than the opposition last night. At home as well. This is the big worry at the moment.Thor wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:17 pm Credit to Ross he proved me wrong by showing he does have the minerals to drop Wright, which I do beleive was the right decision.

Re: Last Night
CCH your point is valid as is others, if you look at the past month or so we've seen the following.
Defensively better
Crosses from both sides
Shots on goal
Now we've had the possession part. It just all needs to link up through the team. The centre midfield area doesn't have a playmaker as such which would help to create the chances required to score.
Its a work in progress.
Tuffers you can be a clown at times, I'm giving the man credit, I still don't believe he is the right person, but when he does something right surely it's also correct to acknowledge that is it not?

Re: Last Night
Obviously you need to win games but personally I haven’t been put off going by our losses necessarily, more the style or lack of that makes it painful viewing week in week out.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2020 8:25 amIs not football based on winning/ scoring and that resultant gives teams points and cups and promotionApple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:55 pm Good to hear. It is not based on a high % of possession - that is meaningless in my opinion to measure success or how to judge a manager or player or team- is going to be successful
If they gave points based on style / possession or other culture stuff fine - but they don't
I don't like route one but Lincoln with Taylor at times Wimbledon of old with the crazy gang and others did that to great success defined as winning
I mean what do the club want pretty football - what do fans want
I reckon most of us just want to stuff teams every week irrespective of high % on possession
As others have stated, chance creation is our problem and that’s Ross’ biggest challenge. A creative midfielder or two might not harm that, instead of an injured striker, for example.

Re: Last Night
The better teams will come at us more which should give us a bit more space that'll allow us to play it quicker. Id like to see us get it up the pitch quicker to catch out the teams who want to sit back.
