Re: Widdowson
Brophy played well today but I totally agree with you . Put Brophy further forward where he can be more effective . After today's shitfest something has got to change for Tuesday night .Story of O wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 7:25 pm I feel he should play Tuesday, and that would allow Brophy to do what he does best, running at defences.

Re: Widdowson
Not much point doing it in the 4-3-3 though and you lose the link-up play with him and JMD as Widdowson won't attack.Story of O wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 7:25 pm I feel he should play Tuesday, and that would allow Brophy to do what he does best, running at defences.
Wish Embleton would man up and try 4-4-2 at home with Cissé and one other but that means benching Wright or Clay and that seems an impossibility

Re: Widdowson
Surely you remember who poor Brophy is as a winger and you must also see how great he is at adapting to a full back roll. He contributes for 90 minutes now.
How many games did we win with him on the wing

Re: Widdowson
It's a no brainer, Widdowson has to play LB on Tuesday, releasing Brophy to play up field, it would give the Mansfield defense
something to think about. Also, play anybody in place of that carthorse Wright.

Brophy is a waster of the ball in attack in the No10 position.Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:09 pm It's a no brainer, Widdowson has to play LB on Tuesday, releasing Brophy to play up field, it would give the Mansfield defense

No. Brophy needs to be out wide where he can use his pace to best effect.Writtlered wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:02 pm Swap Widdowson for wright and get Brophy in that number 10 free role.

Re: Widdowson
Spot on. People have short memories. I like Brophy, he’s one of our better players but he’s been so inconsistent as a winger. At full back he gets space and opportunities that you don’t get as a winger. It’s similar to people calling for Chlohessy and caprice you’re be pushed up to be wingers in the recent past, and both were sh*t when they got the chance.

Re: Widdowson
Accept all of that but Brophys decision making and effectiveness does seem to be improving of late. It may be worth a try.
(But means us going back to 4-4-2 so isn’t going to happen anyway).

Re: Widdowson
I’m pretty sure Justin used him in the number 10 role on a few occasions and he was really effective, at the moment we are playing : CM’s who all seem to be the same sort of mould. I’d play Cisse and Clay then Brophy just ahead, like how Jose sets up spurs.RedO wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:20 pmNo. Brophy needs to be out wide where he can use his pace to best effect.Writtlered wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:02 pm Swap Widdowson for wright and get Brophy in that number 10 free role.

Re: Widdowson
I thought that was the point of signing a player like Cisse , so we could play 4-4-2 . I agree we have to give this formation a try .It's neck and neck who I would drop out of Wright and Clay but I think I would just about give it to Wright and drop Clay . Up front I would go with Wilkinson and one of Angol , Sotiriou or Johnson.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 7:39 pmNot much point doing it in the 4-3-3 though and you lose the link-up play with him and JMD as Widdowson won't attack.Story of O wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 7:25 pm I feel he should play Tuesday, and that would allow Brophy to do what he does best, running at defences.

Re: Widdowson
101% agree. Brophy can hurt the opposition far more if played further forward as he showed today with that great finish.Story of O wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 7:25 pm I feel he should play Tuesday, and that would allow Brophy to do what he does best, running at defences.
JMD was poor today as was Josh Wright, amongst others and personally I would play Widdowson at LB and Brophy where JMD played today.
I couldn’t work out where Sotiriou was playing today, he seemed all over the place ??

Re: Widdowson
More erstwhile tacticians than me may have different observations but after Johnson came on it seemed no-one quite seemed to know where they were playing for 10-15 minutes before it settled back into 4-3-3 at the end.Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:36 pm101% agree. Sotiriou went out to the left but a few minutes later we seemed to have 2 up top... was thinking 4-1-3-2 then a few minutes later Sotiriou appeared upfront. Really was a mish mash, Johnson coming on seemed to unsettle things, a like-for-like with Dayton would've at least kept the shape consistent.
