Re: Recording of The Orient Hour Feb 6th with Danny Macklin
Ok just finished listening to the show. I thought it was very good this week, Steve is just superb at hosting and brings everything together in a smooth way. I thought both Trevor and Lee had their best shows since they’ve been on and the new guys spoke really well to boot.
Danny Macklin is just a star in our club, and I do beleive that with him in his role he really will drive this business forwards and improve what we experience as a fan and watch on the pitch (via higher income = better players) and it’s encouraging what the club are trying to affect at he EFL.
Interesting that he says players wages are are below 50% of turnover, now that’s impressive and certainly way within the sustainability percentage that most professionals say clubs should be operating at. Tenders are out to fix the east stand for urgent works, that’s a positive for people as that’s been talked about on here enough times. No move of the club within or outside of the borough in either the mid or long term, which seems to have changed from what was said previously. We don’t want to purchase the freehold of the ground and the rent charged is very competitive for a land mass our size. All ground repairs are the clubs responsibility and not the pension funds. Streaming is now a six figure number and the club want to drive that figure upwards towards matching the ground average thus generating a substantial amount of cash, cash that I suspect is fairly free money? Beers in your seats is being pushed hard and again he believes could deliver a substantial six figure number.
Interesting point made at the end by Danny, if people just spent another £4 within the ground that would equate to an uplift of £400k in turnover.

I thought Danny was really good value - straight talking, never evaded a question, good humour and said it as it is
Got me thinking that we keep on hearing about players contracts but I think we should be making sure that contracts are also tied down for internal staff like Danny, Lindsey Lucy, Elizabeth and the rest of the team who are the stalwarts and backbone of the club and so important for the sustainability of the club - real stars
I will make sure I spend my £4 at the club on Saturday with 4 pie and mashes and not all for me !!

Im not the only one who finds what Danny has to say fascinating and insightful.
In the latest Orient Hour DM explained that transfer fees are often paid out in instalments over a period of time not in one hit. I didn't know that. Makes me appreciate more that fine balance tightrope of football cash flow.

I think the elephant in the room is players wages
So Sunshine with his hat on says lets have a look at this and save some money :
We do not need a director of football ! ( WE DO NOT NEED A DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL ! )
Players who have to go all contracts end june 2020:
Coullson
Ling
Brill
Sarge
Gorman
Alabi
Mcanuff
Dayton
Harold
Turley ( ( contract 2021 what a joke )
We are a league 2 team perhaps we do not require so many coaches except for the bloke who drives the bus
Stop all this over night stays in hotels -players get up earlier, get the train, drive or get on the coach with the supporters
Recruitment will be through our young home grown academy players and local player scouted by us
How much have I saved Danny and how to I get my commission !

Interesting point indeed but i suggest that if we didn't offer long term injured players new contracts the uplift in performances, moral and value for money could be priceless..

Haven’t heard the show, but I quite like being able to give away tickets I know I can’t use. The alternative is a paid-for empty seat from which the club earn nothing extra. It would be a shame if that were no longer possible.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 7:34 am New ticketing system for next season, you will have cards. You can give your ticket to the supporters club who will donate the money to the JE3 fund via Keren Harrison. A bit off topic in terms of club finances but worthy of a mention.o-no wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 10:12 pmHaven’t heard the show, but I quite like being able to give away tickets I know I can’t use. Re: Recording of The Orient Hour Feb 6th with Danny Macklin
Wouldn't need to spend an extra £4 if Ling hasn't made such a mess of the Fletcher appointment. Add up compensation to get him initially, fully paid up contract plus likely a bit on top for an NDA and that's a fair chunk of the sum. As for the DoF and the bloated academy staff roll call that's a whole thread in itself...
Interesting that the figure quoted above is that the player wages are below 50%, how about the rest of the staffing which seems far too large for an L2 club with a small squad.
Looking at purely the stuff Macklin is responsible for he's done a cracking job, need to take more of his methods and apply them to the playing side of the club.
Only thing I strongly disagree with us the deference to Hearn, renting something the club owned and had snatched away for half its value isn't a good deal at all. Shame Travis in particular is closely linked with the guy who ripped the club off for millions.
