Prince Andrew defers birthday promotion to Admiral
What has Prince Andrew done to even be considered being promoted to the rank of an Admiral ?
The Duke of York has asked to defer a military promotion to Admiral after stepping down from public duties in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
Prince Andrew was due to be promoted on his 60th birthday later this month, but a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said he had requested to forego the planned promotion until he can resume royal duties.

In that case, many men and women who have served in the various armed conflicts that UK has been involved with, could also claim the right to be promoted to the highest ranks of whatever branch of the armed services that they served for.spen666 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:26 amYou mean apart from his service in the Royal Navy and being an active helicopter pilot in the Falklands conflict?Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:14 am What has Prince Andrew done to even be considered being promoted to the rank of an Admiral ? ...

Agree, like the honours list, so many meaningless unearned medals and titles.

Royalty in this country is an outmoded institution, the Queen is just a figurehead, nothing more.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:52 amWatch children passing their university examinations after working so hard for three years plus their two years prior to get on the course -then having to write their CV and going for interviews.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:41 am Agree, like the honours list, so many meaningless unearned medals and titles.
They are the ones that deserve a real start in life.
With life structured unfairly one has to ask is a society fair with real integrity if one family command such behaviour.
One does not have to be a communist to see life has to be a fairer place
Ok if we wish to keep this going, surely getting to the time when it needs to be down-scaled to a lower level as it is in other European countries that still have a Monarchy.

"A spokeswoman for Westminster Abbey said the Duke’s birthday would still be marked by the traditional ringing of bells."
Is that to alert all the young women that he's in the vicinity?

I assume he then gets a higher pay draw down with a "higher" title

Probably tuffers, but I'm sure he's not short of a few quid either. It's not like he's checking his bank account wondering if he can heat his house is it?
