Football for a Fiver

Post by Cheshunto »

I may be mistaken but I thought the club had said that a home game in 2020 ( ie between January and May 2020 ) was gonna be a “Football for a Fiver” game.
Checking the club website details of this seem to have disappeared or at least there’s no mention of it now ??
Anyone know if this has been announced by the club ??

Yes, that’s s right, but looking at the pricing for the Morecambe game on the website it’s showing as our normal prices.
I’m just trying to get a group of friends along who don’t normally attend.

Macclesfield not turning up on Saturday should surely mean a hefty points deduction.
It’s probably the best chance Stevenage have got of staying up.

Macclesfield currently have a suspended points deduction for failing to fulfill a game at start of season

They currently have 2 outstanding charges 1 relating to financial irregularities - ie not paying players/staff and another 1 for failing to fulfill the Plymouth home game at back end of last year.

You would expect they will have suspended points deduction activated and a new points deduction for Plymouth game

The problem for the EFL is they are desperate to avoid there being no effective relegation battle at the bottom of table as now only one going down and if Macclesfield properly punished, it would mean they were effectively relegated.

Would have thought 28 March game would have been £5, but doesn’t look like it. Won’t matter too much to me as I am off to see Saracens v Harlequins that day. The fiver games always seem to coincide with that. Maybe they will make Salford a £5 game as it is on a Monday.

As an aside, the half season tickets are still available, and with the four free tickets you can get, is another way of bringing a few friends along. Got 8 tickets out of this last season.

I hate football for a fiver days. You just get a load of b*ll ends turning up who have no interest in the game. A load of them turn up after kick off and make everyone get up whilst they fumble about looking for their seats.

Then they p*ss off before half time and clog up the concourse, knocking back pints well into the second half. They repeat the fumbling about getting to the seat routine (if they even bother to come out for the second half) then sod off before the game has even finished.

They’re also the types who think they are hilarious, you know the kind of morons who ironically shout “shoot” when a played picks up the ball 50 yards from goal.

There’s also always at least one in the group who knows bugger all about football, asking stupid questions throughout “who are the red team?” “What way are Leyton shooting?” “What division are they in?”

Yes Huxley, but I wonder how many have converted to coming to further games as our increased attendances indicate something is happening.

Sounds like you are describing the average season ticket holder.

I am sort of in this territory. I stopped going to Orient for many years, then my son got freebies from school, then I got freebies from Wanstead/Woodford Guardian from the competitions I always won along with the odd one from the score centre, then I was going to the £5 games and last season a couple of half season tickets. So I have been dragged back in :-).

So the £5 games do get people coming to other games, even if it is just me, my nephew and my father.

Hopefully the club will decide to make the Morecambe game a “Football for a Fiver” fixture, maybe making a decision later this month.
I feel they need to do something not only to encourage new fans but also to encourage existing Season Ticket holders to renew.
We’ve seen some poor home games this season including the last “Football for a Fiver” game which was Scunthorpe and was awful IIRC.
I think these offers do bring along new fans, but they need to be entertained for them to return.

Wouldn't it be great for the club and it's future if as many "morons", as you call them, boosted our attendances to 8or 9000 thousand every home game? Bring 'em on, I would say!

I suspect there will be an early bird offer encouraging existing Season Ticket holders to renew.

What Orient need to do is get more new season ticket holders or at least regulars. For me, an open season ticket would tempt me. Generally I can't make games in August, September and December, but I do make about 10-12 games over the whole season. If rather than a full season ticket there was a turn up and get in season ticket. Just make blocks A & B in East unreserved, and provide an any game ticket. Orient don't sell out many games, and there could be certain exclusions such as cup games, derby games or final game of season. Last year I got a half season ticket as I was able to go to almost all the games from end January onwards. Only missed Maidenhead as I had to go to Nottingham that weekend. I suppose biggest danger of that approach is existing season ticket holders take it up.
