Johnson in - Replaces Alabi and hopefully stakes a strong claim for the No 9 job.
Cisse in - Class act already despite not playing this season. A big win for LOFC.
Sterling in - Big future, not paying him, will push Dennis/Dayton/Wright. A bit risky but free.
As a lower league two club, this has been better than anyone thought we'd do.... except for the idiots and self flagellating pessimist types.
See how I'm getting used to this place again.
Could have done with a full back to cover injuries in the second half of the season and some bite and drive in what is a pretty pedestrian midfield but the squad as is should see us through safely until the summer when I expect some further improvements.
Note to those fuming that we’re not going to win the Champions League this year...we’re League 2 Leyton Orient who’ve just been promoted from non league.

Re: It's Stirling !
I think it’s a very good deal for the club and it’s a long term bit of business. I doubt we are paying any of his wages, when fit Spurs will get to see the boy play league football and be able to be judge his ability against Wiley seasoned pros.
Our club gets a hot prospect and the opportunity to build a close working relationship with Spurs. They have a lot of players who are loaned out each season and if we put ourselves in a prime position it can and will only help us secure the better talents that they may have. They will remember us agreeing to take on an injured player and will return that favour, so I think ling has actually or may in time actually have pulled off a master stroke here.

Sorry, I've had a few drinks, but honestly, this is completely nuts. We're at the brown underpants end of league 2 and we've "signed" a played injured since September.
You can dress this up as a long term strategic move all day long, but how does this help us this season. If T&T signed off on this then they really need their temperatures taking.

So OK Stirling is injured but nobody has said how close he is to resuming full training . The sooner he starts full training again the sooner we might see him playing for the first team .

Re: It's Stirling !
That's why I would like to know how close he is to resuming full training . He might not be that far off . If he can get himself fit he could prove himself to be a very valuable addition . I certainly wouldn't write off any player until I've seen them play a few times .o-no wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:03 am Sorry, I've had a few drinks, but honestly, this is completely nuts. Re: It's Stirling !
Seem to remember last season we took on loan a player from Crystal Palace and played him a couple of times. Waste of everybody’s time I am sure the player did not learn anything. Seems to be a similar story but with the added problem he is already injured. Gorman was injured when we signed him and it took several months before he was fit to play . History repeating itself . Only time will tellRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:04 am So OK Stirling is injured but nobody has said how close he is to resuming full training . Re: It's Stirling !
First things first, signing an injured player is patently ridiculous and something Orient have done a few times recently to disastrous effect. I suppose we can be charitable and assume he will be match fit by the end of February, which will mean that we get 10 games out of him. It’s highly doubtful that we’re paying his wages, so I suppose in that sense it’s a gamble worth taking. No real downside.
However, I have to laugh at the indignation from others saying that we didn’t need another forward. In case it had escaped everyone’s attention, our senior strikers have barely notched a goal between them (11 in 82 appearances between them). Wilkinson is a seriously good footballer at this level, but has barely scored. Angol has decent feet but he looks disinterested most of the time and his last goal from open play was in mid-September. Harrold is a desperation substitute who should never have been given a contract in the summer and Dennis is made of glass and missed a host of simple chances when he was occasionally fit. They’re not a particularly effective or talented bunch; I’d go as far as to say that I’d be perfectly happy to never see the latter three of them in an O’s shirt again. Sterling can’t be any worse.

Johnson - a blind crack addict with a wooden leg would have been an improvement on Alabi
Cissé - has been perfectly adequate. Made to look a superstar by the fact that we were so desperate for somebody to do the roll he is current fulfilling anybody who did a mildly decent job at it would look like Makalele
Sterling - an injured player on loan who can’t wven train with us...pointless
Dennis - anonymous
Dayton - permanently injured. And signed last season anyway
Wright - decent.

Been travelling so just caught up with this. Unusual to sign someone who can’t play for us yet. But it’s been done before in recent times.
I can’t remember it working out well in the previous cases but who knows someone has to come good sometime. Let’s hope when he plays he turns out to be another Kevin Campbell.

Re: It's Stirling !
yes bit of a strange one,not that bad if he is nearly fit any know if he is almost fit ? we have a couple of our own young players already who are looking good, have we got him for free ? if we are near the bottom at the end of the season and he comes on on and scores goals I will be happy, key is have we got him for free.
Re: It's Stirling !
How long is he out for exactly?
With such a long term injury it seems that even when he gets back into full training with us he will need time and warm-up games, do we have any reserve fixtures left?
I don't necessarily think it is bad, we are in no immediate need of strikers and from his (albeit limited) highlights he might be more suited to the Angol isolated role up front.
But I do think we should have signed another defender. Assuming that Turley's injury is bad we might not see him again this season, that leaves us with three centre-backs for two spots. The full-backs Ling, Judd and Widdowson all have been injury prone this season as well.
In the case of the right-back spot there is a clear opportunity to get a proper experienced guy in there and make one of the youngsters his understudy, .... the club has to come first.
