Marsh was wasted at RB and as a three with Cisse (deserved his plaudits) and Kyprianou we might even have a midfield (won't happen). Until today I hadn't seen what everybody had in Sotiriou but he led our line brilliantly and even with Wilkinson being only sort of okay we were eons better than in recent weeks. Thought JMD had a strange game, blowing hot and cold in the first half and disappearing in the second.

The big take from today is that, even with two players playing out of position, we looked a balanced side that dominated and were solid at the back. Can't remember the last time I was able to say that.
We didn’t move the ball out wide as much as we ha e done recently which obviously doesn’t suit jmd. I’d you think about it Brophy didn’t really get forwards or overlap him if at all. We played more centrally today, maybe that was the game plan?
Definitely deliberate. The front 3 were a lot narrower so that Wilkinson initially then Ruel for the majority of the game weren’t isolated.

They also interchanged a lot, kept noticing Sotiriou swapping with JMD and at one point Wilkinson went through the middle. Seemed to work well for us in the first half in terms of possession and build up play.

I think someone has watched a different game to the rest of us. Why are you so down on the markings?

Unfortunately, you have to take the whole 90 mins into account and also, scoreline doesn’t reflect performance. First half was absolute poo poo. 2nd half up until the goal wasn’t great from either side. Marv did well to force an OG but if that bit of luck doesn’t go Orient’s way, the game would have ended 0-0. Orient’s 2nd came on the back of Newport pushing for an equaliser, great ball and finish. But Wright had all the time in the world. Formation was disjointed and it took Ross 78 mins to change anything. You can see how nervy they were after they conceded 1 being 2 nil up.

Great result yes, but lets not get carried away. Ross isn’t the man for the job, Orient haven’t turned a corner and this should be Ling’s last season as DoF. Hopefully it gives the players a bit of confidence.

Biggsy is speaking a lot of sense. There were lots of good signs and pluses to take from that but some people are going overboard.

If their 11 scores that headed open goal or the ref gives them either of those penalties - the miskick by Cisse or the push by Happe - it’s a different story.

Yep, plus signs that we have to repeat consistently.

Can understand the nerves after conceding the goal. This is a team pretty low in confidence

Biggsy May have some valid points, but the first half was good compared to what we’ve been watching recently and it was in my view a massive improvement. Plenty of pluses to take from that. If the keeper has not made those three class saves we go in three nil up, he did and we didn’t but we produced both the chances and the efforts on target. How many times have be moaned about the lack of chances and or shots on targets? Too many times this year.

We controlled the play well at times, we moved the ball with more purpose, with intent and looked in control for long periods. I’m not sure they challenged us to well at all through the game.

We have some credit in he bank to take forwards and work on this coming week.

Yep, all of that too. Much, much improved and I enjoyed both halves.

Just saying some of those throwing out 7 and 8 ratings across the board are a bit OTT.

Get that but Happe a 5? He was excellent yesterday. Cisse a 6 he was one of he main reasons we won the game. Our centre had a presence about it, a tackle in it, a forwards pass in it and plenty of encouragement from him as well.

Hell josh even chased down and blocked an out ball in stoppage time that nearly went over the south stand! When a player leads others will follow.

Being better than what we've been used to doesn't mean it's good. There's a tendency with this fan base to overreact. Whether it's losing 1 game being the downfall of the club or winning 1 game meaning we're going up. The way Newport set up allowed Orient to control the game a bit more, with the 3 central midfielders. It was baffling that Ross played a left winger and 2 strikers but left the right side empty when we had a left winger who is quick, playing at left back.

I'm one of Happe's biggest fans but he didn't do anything special. Marv only got a 6 cause of the goal.

Biggsy I get your point on not getting carried away but the way I've always looked at ratings the starting "average" score tends to be 6 (weird as that is on a 1-10 scale)

For someone to get a 5 that usually says they've had a poor game. Barring that aberration from the FK at the end our defence didn't give Newport a sniff so it seems harsh to mark them average / sub-average

I thought we looked much more comfortably in possession in the first half. We didn’t make it count and looked like a side that had only won once in the last 16 or whatever the record is, but it was definitely a much improved performance. We were far stronger in midfield, which I attribute largely to Cisse’s presence, and although we didn’t create a huge number of chances, I think we did enough to convince me we’d likely go on to win the game. Thought we defended well all game, bar some shoddy marking for their goal, and now we’ve proved to ourselves we can dominate a game and then go on to win it, that should help us kick on a bit.

My take from the game was that we were a more balanced side, no isolated striker or lack of cover in front of the back four. Keep that balance and that sort of formation we can see out the season with a comfortable mid-table finish.

I thought it was quite a good performance. Players were supporting team mates more, by moving into positions/space to receive a pass.
