Old boys from the Jurassic Period
I have watched the O's since 1957, the probable reason us from the Jurassic period are not happy is the fact that we were playing in the old 2nd Division (Championship) when I started watching them.We then secured promotion in 19961/62 to the old 1st Division (Premiership) albeit for only one season and went back to the old 2nd Division (Championship)
We were then relegated in 1966 to the old 3rd Division (League 1)
We were promoted in the. 1969/70 Season back to the old 2nd Division (Championship) and remained there for 12 years before being relegated to the old 3rd Division (League 2) at the end of the 1982/83 season .
So for me from the Jurassic period 1957 to the end of the 1982/83 season I had watched 1 year in the old 1st Division Premiership) 18 years in the old 2nd Division (Championship) and just 2 years in the old 3rd Division (league 2).
Maybe you will now understand why us from the Jurassic Period are sick and tired of the dross that has been on offer for too many years.
I could never be a supporter of any other club and the O's will always be my team, they will get praise when they deserve it and continued criticism when they deserve it.
Up the O's

So the promotion in 2018/19 is counted as dross?
Thanks for clarification re my grumpy old men post

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
That was the only highlight for many years, so obviously our fantastic promotion was not included in the dross.
What has happened since with the ridiculous decision to appoint Ross Embleton as Head Coach and the standard and quality of football played for far too many years is the dross !

What a very great ride that was. Such a small squad of players. Russell was key. We clicked.

2005/2006 was 14 years ago far too long ago without real success.
1988/89 was 31 ago far, far too long ago , now that is really scraping the barrel.

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
I've been watching football nearly as long as you (saw my first game in 1962). As you may know I support Dundee and Leyton Orient to the best of my ability. Growing up in Dundee I saw my team win a league title, a league cup, and reach 2 European semi finals. I've stood and watched my team beat AC Milan (went out on aggregate, though) so I totally get where you're coming from. Sadly, however, those days are gone forever unless there's a radical change in the way football is run and we've all got to recognise that. One word will explain why it would be incredibly difficult for Orient to compete long term, even at Championship level. MONEY. I know it doesn't guarantee anything but clubs with vastly bigger budgets WILL prevail over a period of time. The game you grew up with has GONE.PoundhillO wrote: βWed Jan 15, 2020 2:18 pm I have watched the O's since 1957, the probable reason us from the Jurassic period are not happy is the fact that we were playing in the old 2nd Division (Championship) when I started watching them.We then secured promotion in 19961/62 to the old 1st Division (Premiership) albeit for only one season and went back to the old 2nd Division (Championship)

Absolutely spot on, the manager was the key, just like last year the manager was the key in any team we've had that's been good the manager is the key.Give it to Jabo wrote: βWed Jan 15, 2020 3:18 pmWhat a very great ride that was. Such a small squad of players. Russell was key. We clicked.
Its simple stuff really, its just finding that right one for your club.

Considering you put up to 1982 in your post means your either forgetful or your being just a xmas crackerPoundhillO wrote: βWed Jan 15, 2020 4:26 pm2005/2006 was 14 years ago far too long ago without real success.

Football League Second Division (2nd tier)
Runners-up: 1961β62
Football League Third Division / Third Division South (3rd tier)
Champions: 1969β70
So you have 2 successful seasons from when you started supporting Orient up till 1982
Ok they played in League 1 for 1 season League 2
For 12 seasons blah blah blah but still had no success
So I was just showing you that from your cut off date off 1982 Orient have won more promotions etc
I think you just like to moan Poundshop full stop
Case closed!!!

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
I wish the post i put up a couple of years ago was still accessible.
That since 1905 we have played 75%+ of our football in the bottom 50% of the football pyramid.
Just check the complete history books by kaufmann
It's all there in black & white.

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
I would hardly call playing in the old League 1(Premiership) for 1 year and 12 years in the old League 2 (Chamionship) not being successful.Lucky7 wrote: βWed Jan 15, 2020 5:50 pmConsidering you put up to 1982 in your post means your either forgetful or your being just a xmas crackerPoundhillO wrote: βWed Jan 15, 2020 4:26 pm2005/2006 was 14 years ago far too long ago without real success.

If you read my original post I did not miss out that we were runners up, as I stated we were promoted in 1961/62.
Yes we did get promoted as Champions in the old 3rd Division (League 1) in 1969/70 season back to where I believe we belonged in the old 2nd Division (Championship). That was the last promotion to a higher level division we achieved, staying in the old 2nd Division (Championship) until 1982 after that it was all down hill as far as promotion to a higher division
Yes there were more promotions since 1982, but whilst some may believe our promotion out of the old 4th Division (lLeague 2) at the end of the 2005/2006 season as a great success, I saw it as being dragged out of the dregs of football.
Donβt even get me started on being in the National League, however we should all be eternally grateful for having Justin as the fantastic Manager that he was for getting us promoted and of course to our new owners for rescuing our club.
The great years of being a great little club have sadly passed us by, hopefully in time we will get back to where I believe we belong in the Championship where we had our greatest continual success.
Case now closed !!!

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
Spot on. When my old man first dragged me to orient we were a stable championship club. Now, smily smurf is pleased when he sets us up to try and get a point at Forest Green. The family club thing has been a noose round our necks for years and in the last 6 months or so itβs got even more incestuous. Amazed that business people like Teague donβt see it.

Re: Old boys from the Jurassic Period
I'm an old git too. I was taken down the O's by my dad in '61 I think. I've followed the O's ever since although I've had some off periods - when sanity prevailed or I was playing football myself - but I just don't get this "sense of entitlement" that PoundhillO expounds, I really don't. We very briefly played at the top level and spent a good many years at Tier 2 but so what? That was then and this is now. Obviously I'd prefer us to be playing at a higher level but that ranks second behind playing decent, entertaining football. That may well get us to a higher level but we'll settle wherever we settle. We have no God given right to demand Championship football. We'd probably go bust getting there anyway as our owners don't have the necessary resources to fund that particular helter skelter ride.

Cannot see how we could play above League One level without doubling our crowds.

I don't think any one would now be alive from that time
Next question
61 -19/20 wouldnt be nearly all the players.
It would be 60 years out of a 139 year History.
Less than half of our existence.
I know its pedantic but , why shouldnt it be.
