It just occurred to me
Tonight watching the Sheffield match while eating my dinner I was greeted by the unsavoury sight of a West Ham player clearing his nose onto the pitch. It is now commonplace for players to regularly spit, and I’ve seen several managers on the touch line do likewise, but it occurred to me that I have never seen a referee spit , yet they cover as much ground as the players.
Well done refs, you lead by example.

Disgusting. Doesn’t happen in other sports. Imagine tennis players doing that?

Tennis players spit in the sponsor provided towel at the change of ends, then they hand the towel to the ball boy/girl.
Can't see it being banned in the world spittoon championships

Played, and play, plenty of sport etc, and never felt the need to spit everywhere.
I think it's a subliminal message to indicate to others that they are a bit of an idiot.

Different thing but strange how the tennis players of years ago did not do all the shrieking as they hit the ball as they often do now. Especially happens nowadays with many of the women tennis players

It's a way to try and put your opponent off their shot, the louder they get the more of putting it gets. It should be stopped imho.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 7:27 pm Different thing but strange how the tennis players of years ago did not do all the shrieking as they hit the ball as they often do now. Monica Seles was the first woman tennis player I ever heard who had a habit of grunting or shrieking loudly when hitting shots.Thor wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 9:19 pmIt's a way to try and put your opponent off their shot, the louder they get the more of putting it gets. It just occurred to me that yesterday was the first game that we had a permanent settled manager in charge since the tragic passing of Justin
