Makes no sense at all. Club gets rid of Davis saying it's all about the results.

Martin Ling says the results haven't been great - employs the guy that has delivered (most of) those results. Poor.

It seems clear to me that the process was never re-opened after Fletcher left and the delay was down to getting Ross the job in a way that everyone could agree to. *** what is best for the club!

Surely even from here the best way to do it is to get Ross to step down, which means the team inevitably wins a few games, and to employ a real manager to start sorting out the mess this season with a view to making a play-off push next season.

watching that Ling video, three things jump out at me:

• he hasn't got any more articulate over the last 15 years

• he "wouldn't have appointed Ross if I didn't think he was the man" - not exactly a convincing endorsement from someone who appointed Fletcher just a couple of months ago

• changes due in the playing staff in January - makes it clear that our struggles this season will be put at the door of the players, rather than Embleton, even though it's the latter that has had to make the bigger step up

• Wheeling Ling out to do this, when he's been pretty quiet since the Fletcher sacking puts him on the hook for this decision too - even though one suspects it wasn't really his

Of course, if we do Grimsby 3-0 on Saturday, I reserve the right to expunge all of this from the record. Unless we then go on a dismal run, and I then reserve the right to put it back.

I like Ross as a person but I'm now expecting us to be in a relegation battle come the end of the season.
