Just getting ready to go to the Royal London Hospital to see an eve specialist at 1.45 , just phoned me and said my appointment is cancelled cos the guy i am supposed to see is feeling unwell , no one else to do it and a further 6 weeks wait for a nother appointment

I have been in and out of hospitals and clinics in the last fortnight and was impressed with how efficient it is these days. Went to GP and following day booked in for X ray and blood test, an ENT appointment within a week. Very little waiting. Even the dentist saw me on time the day before ENT appointment and arranged for further treatment within 3 weeks.

Makes me question why I pay for healthcare through work. Only time I used it around 7 years ago I was subjected to a battery of tests that cost thousands and they said I was perfectly fine but should drink less. I suspect once the hospital knew I had the healthcare they just milked it for all it was worth.

My mum just did 4 months on a ward, stuck in bed. Somehow they manage to lose one of her two hearing aids after 3 months of being there. Audiology is on the 2nd floor and my mum's on the 14th. She's able to be put into a wheelchair - but it takes nearly 3 weeks to get her there. Her ears are checked and she's due for discharge. The hearing aids are nothing special, but the order lead time for them is...........3 months. Boots can do it in less than 3 weeks.

4 months of dealing with the NHS has been a real eye opener. The lack of joined up thinking is immense; the worry about being sued is massive. The amount of paperwork means they spend less time providing services than they should. There's a huge amount of penny wise - pound foolish thinking going on - and its been invented by those accountants looking to justify savings.

I rung 111 saying that I was short of breath. They told me to get my ass around GP asap as they would see me at once. Saw practise nurse, she said she call ambulance. I sat in waiting room. Ambulance there in minutes. Go to ambulance man & collapse. Cardiac arrest. 10 minutes plus CPR from ambulanceman. Heart got going after 10 mins plus. 5 days in intensive care. Another 7 days later after an arterial re-bore, sent home. That was last August. Still alive & got my tickets for Wemblee. Highlight of last year was little Polish nurse climbing on my bed behind me- unfortunately it was only to brush my teeth.No complaints from me Bucko's!

I have nothing but bad things to say about the staff and processes in two seperate hospitals following experiences this year. It is on its knees and staff would rather ignore people then deal with them. Was a huge eye opener for me as had nothing but respect for them before this.

The NHS is an incredible asset to the UK. It’s underfunded and rules are imposed by the government to inhibit it running well. Then they can sell it off to the private sector as “it’s not working as a public entity”.

last year I had the turps operation at Broomfield Hospital.
have to say they where brilliant, pee like a donkey now.
my wife had a heart attack two years ago I took her to Broomfield within 5 minutes of
getting to AE she was rushed to Basildon hosp within one hour she had a stent fitted now she is fine.
cant praise the NHS enough.

Frustrating as it is to have an appointment cancelled, this sounds like it happened because someone was off sick, which isn't really specific to the NHS is it? I'm sure staff also get poorly in the private sector.

^THIS. Several members of my family work in the NHS and I can assure you that they are as frustrated as you are by the restrictions and lack of resources they work under.

the amount of violence doctors and nurses suffer from people going to
the A.E is unbelievable, doctors being punched spat on nurses insulted, how is this allowed to continue.
its about time people looking for help then abusing it should be thrown out or if its serious locked up.

If you watch the Ambulance prog on the Beeb. Loads of their time taken up by alkies, druggies, dysfunctional people and smokers. Not just a health problem but a social problem. When I was in hospital, there was a Traveller in the next bed. Quite a pleasant chap, who was quite ill with diabetes. He was often not there, unless really down & was then akip. Trouble was he was illiterate & most of the staff didn't take this on board. Every day he was given a menu sheet which he looked at with disdain. He spent most of the time with his mates in the canteen. They looked after him by bringing big bottles of fresh orange juice, biscuits and chocolate. Felt sorry for him, our social help system not really designed for people like him.

When my son was taken bad Whipps Cross were magnificent. Emergency admission, wide range of tests promptly carried out and great care until discharged. I will always respect what they did.

The waiting room had its share of people there who were pissed or drugged up, pukeing up or carrying injuries because they couldn’t walk. Morons.

And that's before we bring other self induced issues to the table. I passionately believe in the nhs, but I'm equally passionate that payment for its services should have a weighting. The government should pay elements of its tax collection on beer and fags into the service - perhaps a sugar tax would be channelled into the nhs to pay for some unnaturally obese illnesses.

Problem is even those with self induced conditions need attention. The night I was there with my daughter a young girl was carried in and seen to immediately. A fella said, somewhat sheepishly, her drink had been spiked. She was a medical student apparently. Could have been true. Point is staff have to deal with what arrives without making judgements. Tough job, I bet sometimes they get irritated but get on with their job.
