Only one team going down is killing this division
Our club's strategy seems fairly apparent - to avoid relegation with the minimum of outlay. I mistakenly thought that because of our tragic and unique circumstance that we'd be pretty much alone in this, but having talked to a Cambridge fan at work then it appears they have the same attitude. Their Spurs loanee, Jack Roles, has come to life in the past 6 weeks and is one of their better players atm - but is probably going back to save on costs. I suspect that there are half a dozen other clubs thinking and acting the same way and that could possibly lead to a very stale second half of the season if Macclesfield continue to implode.
I can't help feeling that the league, in attempting to look after their members interests, have got it wrong by not allowing an extra team up from the NL as opposed to only dropping one down. Even if that final position was a play off game between teams in the two leagues. As it stands we are in for a second half of largely negative and stale football that will see fans appreciation of their clubs wilt and impact on things like attendances this season and as likely next (due to season ticket sales).

So, youseem to be against club acting prudently in respect of their finances?
You want more clubs to get into financial trouble?

Re: Only one team going down is killing this division
You must have been reading my post with a jaundiced view. I'm not against the club, or any club, acting prudently. Its the circumstance that has made them think this way I'm concerned about. Football needs to be in the entertainment business and fans enjoyment is born out of the competition on the day and for either aspiring to promotion or avoiding relegation. The latter has been taken away by the league and so the competitive edge is being lost. Fans can see this happening and won't return to watch on such a regular basis in future weeks/months/seasons.

Re: Only one team going down is killing this division
Any club banking on one of the current bottom three being relegated needs only to look at season 16/17 (the one we were relegated to NL). Newport were goners after we beat them 4-0 at their place, 10 or 11 points adrift with 10 or so games to play. They escaped relegation on the last day.

I'm beginning to think there's this complacency creeping in that Macclesfield will fold . If this happens , no relegation this season . What a risky strategy and a terrible way to keep our league status . I hope I'm proved wrong.

I don't think we'd be deliberately throwing the towel in though just because one/no teams will be relegated. That would be counterintuitive for so many reasons. Signing a new keeper shows that we're at least trying to improve - if we didn't care they would have stuck with Sergeant and Janata for the rest of the season.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: βSun Jan 05, 2020 2:12 pm I'm beginning to think there's this complacency creeping in that Macclesfield will fold . Macclesfield will not fold as they are currently going through the process of being bought by les sealey son.
Just look at how bad a season they've had off the field and without the points deductions would be above us.
Let that sink in.
