Re: Grimsby want Angol?
If it's true, take it but it may be unfair on Angol as he isn't being utilised properly, we have no leadership.

Apparently that’s what they are paying hollowing in wages, according to their podcast guys.

Heard murmurs clubs are lining up bids for him but Grimsby wasn't the type of side I would've imagined.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
No but to sell the striker that was supposed to be the replacement for either Koroma or Bonne would sum us up nicely this season.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
He must be looking to get out. Maybe, a number of players are trying to get out too (Some supporters on here will be happy enough with that), the atmosphere is toxic. This team is not happy and I don't think they have faith in RE. We had a brief stage when results improved but that was when Embleton had announced he was stepping down from the interim role, perhaps that's a coincidence, perhaps it's not.

From what we've seen of him being a target man doesn't seem to be something he enjoys and no doubt expects much better service than what he's getting.RoryRocks wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:30 am He must be looking to get out. Like Wilkinson I think a better player than what's being shown at present but not being played in a shape or with a strike partner who suits his strengths. Certainly has nifty footwork and ability to get away from a man 1v1 but usually doing it somewhere near the halfway line.

Again, this would be down to Ross and his tactics .gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:41 amFrom what we've seen of him being a target man doesn't seem to be something he enjoys and no doubt expects much better service than what he's getting.RoryRocks wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:30 am He must be looking to get out. Re: Grimsby want Angol?
From what I've seen I would suggest that wilko is the front man, the point of attack and you play Angol slightly off him. That way Wilko can take all the target stuff, back to goal etc, and Angol feeds off him facing goal.
Wilko has scored more goals, got more assists than Angol, is better suited to the main man role and this allows you free up Angol to utilise his skills and lovely footwork to create goals for himself and others. Whereas now he is expected to do the lot on his own, we are not playing to his strengths in my opinion.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
I think he's a myth, good looking technical footballer who actually isn't that effective, only ever got more than 10 in a season once, people think he is superior to what he is as he is a nice footballer, Wilkinson to me is vastly more effective
Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Doesn't make sense to me. Angol clearly has no problem in moving around, but he is a London lad and first choice here. He is hardly going to double his salary there either.
Perhaps the financial side of the deal to the club is attractive. On the face of it this might generate almost as much as we got for Bonne for a player that must have cost very little only a few months ago. For the players that were most likely on the Fletcher list, it is hard to see us getting any fees at all for them hard enough to see them leaving as they will be on League Two wages looking at National League clubs.
For me the service he has got has been poor and he has gotten worse as the season has gone on, perhaps getting more and more frustrated and losing confidence. Wilkinson was the opposite, he started the season poorly and got better, until getting injured.
I think he's more talented than Wilkinson but Wilkinson is a bit more of a grafter. Under the current style of play Ollie Palmer would appear to be better than Angol.
He has to keep the faith really, the chances seem very good that a real manager will come in if not soon but by next season.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Agree with this, to a large extent re Angol: "good feet", as they say, but I'm not sure a lot else in terms of him being a goalscorer.essexfootball wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:51 am I think he's a myth, good looking technical footballer who actually isn't that effective, only ever got more than 10 in a season once, people think he is superior to what he is as he is a nice footballer, Wilkinson to me is vastly more effective

I'd be selling for £150k and using the resources to help re-shape the squad.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Unbelievable how wrong some of these assessments are.
He’s been one of the few bright lights in an otherwise dreary season. Has everyone forgotten how bad we were when he was out injured? Even worse than we are now, much worse, and that’s saying something.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Yes, I've always rated Wilkinson over Angol. Having said that, playing him up front on his own is ridiculous and he never looks like scoring in a month of Sundays.essexfootball wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:51 am I think he's a myth, good looking technical footballer who actually isn't that effective, only ever got more than 10 in a season once, people think he is superior to what he is as he is a nice footballer, Wilkinson to me is vastly more effective

If you look at his recent track record at both Mansfield and Shrewsbury he didn’t hang around long, so I wouldn’t rule it out myself!Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:47 am Not going to happen IMO. He's only just got here.

No doubt in my mind that Wilkinson looked a far better prospect when Angol was out of the team and he played centrally.essexfootball wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:51 am I think he's a myth, good looking technical footballer who actually isn't that effective, only ever got more than 10 in a season once, people think he is superior to what he is as he is a nice footballer, Wilkinson to me is vastly more effective

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Wilkinson was also hopeless being a target man, wasn't up for the physical stuff and had that same look of disinterest being aimed at Angol. For Wilko his best performances actually came playing on the right with Harrold as the focal point. Problem being at 35 Harrold started tiring after a couple of games as a starter.redintheface wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:52 amNo doubt in my mind that Wilkinson looked a far better prospect when Angol was out of the team and he played centrally.essexfootball wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:51 am I think he's a myth, good looking technical footballer who actually isn't that effective, only ever got more than 10 in a season once, people think he is superior to what he is as he is a nice footballer, Wilkinson to me is vastly more effective
My concern if we sell is seeing the squad even further weakened. We're at least one striker light already so if we sell one I can't see us bringing two in.
The youth / academy seems to be an endless black hole pouring money in to then give the products to Championship sides for peanuts.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 11:23 amBut cash in may have a higher priority by the owners to going into the youth set up balance sheetLittleMate wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 8:23 am I'd be selling for £150k and using the resources to help re-shape the squad.

Re: Grimsby want Angol?
Heard that Marv may be on his way too. Rotherham have never lost interest after bidding for him in the summer and along with other clubs have him watched him regularly, as he's out of contract at the end of the season and has as far as we are aware declined to discuss new one £50k would probably get him.
