The challenges one has merit like it does in tennis for example. I also think that the communication between the ref and the var team should be makes available for the fans to hear like they do in rugby.

Technology in cricket and tennis works without undue disruption, for there are natural breaks anyway. It seems to work in rugby to a point as the game is punctuated by breaks. But VAR in football is introducing breaks which were never there to start with, and it often takes way too long to make a decision – unlike the success of goal-line technology - and that for me is the main problem which needs rectifying.

If it’s not an obvious mistake by the ref then the decision stands was I thought the directive. So it seems reasonable to say that if with a plethora of camera angles and a team of people looking at them, they can’t decide within (say) 10-15 seconds to overrule the ref, then it’s not clear that the on-field decision was wrong and hence the ref’s decision stands and the game continues. Simples!

Well, it certainly ain’t working as it is.

We should have goal-line technology, that’s quick and easy.

VAR should be there SOLELY for the ref to call upon if he / she feels uncertain.. no players or managers should bully the ref into it. In fact, players who thrust themselves in the refs face should be sin binned for 15 mins.

Otherwise we may as well exit the ref and have computers do the lot ...

IMO, feet, legs and arms, long hair flapping about etc should be excluded from VAR decisions. Should purely be the head and main parts of the body, chest etc.

VAR was driven by TV with its obsessive need for Talking Points an multi camera replays. But the TV punters and pundits have turned on it, as have fans at the grounds unsure whether to celebrate goals until VAR has been used. I reckon it needs binning off pdq.

To say VAR isn't working is wrong. VAR is working exactly as it should. The referee's and authorities have used it exactly as it was intended. The problem is its existence. You can't fix the fact that it takes long, or that decisions will still be subjective, or that players can't celebrate. You either need to accept that this is how VAR works, or scrap it.

To be honest, I was originally of the opinion, that it would enhance the game, I am now on the scap it, side.
I have been to Premier League matches this season, obviously I hasten to add, when Orient are not at home and the initial confusion in the stadium borders on the ridiculous. I can only speak of seeing rugby union games at Twickenham, so not sure if it is the same at all first class grounds, but there the spectators are fully aware of what is going on and even of the dialogue between the referee and the tmo. Could I eventually see that ever happening in football .... not a chance.

Agreed, fans want to see goals, of course we want offside called correctly when it’s clearly offside, but not for armpits or heels etc. The lunatics are running the asylum.

This will enrage fans to such an extent that, if a team needs one point to stay up and an equalising goal is ruled out by VAR
because the goal scorer's beard is just over the VAR line, and the team is relegated what do you think the fans will do?

Don’t watch much top flight football.

My understanding was that VAR would be used to contentious decisions but it seems to me that it’s used for basically everything.

Can’t they add some sort of challenge system like they do in tennis? Each team gets a certain number of challenges per half. Use them wisely.

I still dont understand how the 'winning' goal from Everton v Man Utd was disallowed. As it came off a United defender, it used to be that the forward was then played onside.

Depends on his positioning. If he’s in front of the keeper or is obstructing his view then it would be deemed offside as I’ve not seen it I’m not sure what happened here. However, you’re right a ball coming off a defender would deem the forward onside.
