Re: Ratings thread
Hard to understand why RE seemed to be so reluctant to get Matt Harrold on the pitch , especially given the lack of creativity in open play. At least Harrold disrupts defenders at set pieces which really looked the only way we would ever score. I remember that Embleton himself made some comments earlier this season saying he hadn’t utilised Harrold enough. It seems he hasn’t learned his lesson!

Re: Ratings thread
31 year old Coulson played a massive part in last seasons success, obviously, That doesn’t mean he should have been kept on for so long. And after a somewhat faltering start to the season, any decision to extend should have been deferred.
I’ve been quite clear that the promotion was in spite of Brill and Clay, not because of them.
And don’t even get me started on thesamling.
No hindsight needed for me on any of the latter 3, I’ve been consistent throughout.

Bringing on Harold means a change in formation and style of play. We have to go a bit more direct and drop our tiki taky total football approach.redintheface wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 7:11 pm Hard to understand why RE seemed to be so reluctant to get Matt Harrold on the pitch , especially given the lack of creativity in open play. It's not hindsight when you make the point as soon as the new contracts are announced.

Re: Ratings thread
Sargeant - 8 - Made some good saves, made lots of kicks first half in difficult conditions, really good save for the second goal
Happe - 5 - Got tortured all game
Turley - 6 - Not as bad as Marv, not great but not awful
Ekpiteta - 4 - All over the place, also countless times he didn't get his body between him and the ball allowing the striker to get there, get your body in front for christ sake, you're twice the size
Marsh - 8 - Thought he was great
Brophy - 5- Very left footed, works hard, does a lot but actually doesn't produce much at the end
Clay - 5 - First 30 I thought he was good, the second booking killed him off a bit and second half got run ragged
JMD - 6 - Put a lot of crosses in, he has put so many near post crosses in last few games it's ridiculous someone has got on one by now
Dayton - 5 - Meh
Angol - 5 - What is he? He works hard, wins fouls but doesn't look like scoring and last few games there has been enough half chances to get a few goals
Subs
Harrold - Actually added a focal point when he came on
Sotiriou - Read the play well and got the goal, also looks pretty quick
The problem was for me, you look on the pitch and where are the goals from open play? At best it will be a set-piece or Wright pen.

Re: Ratings thread
Marsh 8 and Angol 5?
Lee Angol is having to do the work of two men and thought he was great again on Saturday.
Dayton’s performance was a joke in comparison.

Re: Ratings thread
Having watched the highlights back Sargeant could do better for the second and poor for the third. Clay noticeably ineffective in second and particularly third, can't keep up with the pace of L2 it seems.

Re: Ratings thread
The left back turned on the after burners and left clay for dust. The guy was proper rapid and he would never have kept up in a month of sundays, it's a bit harsh to bash him over being beaten for pace. I doubt Brophy would have kept up with the geezer, he was that fast.
However, saying that once the guy was gone, he did stop trying to recover, when he should have continued to break his neck to get back and cover the person who might have pulled across to cover the player concerned. For that you could rightly question his desire.
