Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Brill pretty much finished as a player at Orient then. The new contract was already a poor decision and an even worse one now.

That why RE said he was looking at a keeper recently, now we can see why.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
He came back too quickly from injury and I don't think he got either his fitness or agility back to where they were last season. That doesn't make him finished, hopefully he can recover all his tools and go again fresh for next season. Whatever anyone thinks hes been a.bloody good keeper for us since he came into the side.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:19 pm Brill pretty much finished as a player at Orient then. Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
This, missing pre-season then being rushed back has proved a false economy as he's never looked right since. Gutted for him as he was such a big influence for us last season. If we do sign another permanent keeper that does make things a bit complicated though.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:22 pmHe came back too quickly from injury and I don't think he got either his fitness or agility back to where they were last season. Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Of course he won’t play for us again.
Ridiculous decision to extend his contract as we did, this only backs that up.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Don't think there is a way back.
Next season I would think the demand from upstairs is that we have some prospect of the play-offs. His performances not good enough this season, like Jobi I think they may have had a way back if we were National League, but the bar has been raised and they will no longer be good enough despite the past.
With 2 keeper coaches the last year of his deal might be cumbersome, one of them will have to go. I'd probably be in favour of Brill going somewhere else as coach (Luton?), using his wage to bring in a proven keeper, but at the moment Sargeant has the rest of the season to prove himself. Nothing to say he can't do it: Ryan Allsop came here as unproven, after a few months he could have been trusted for first choice had Bournemouth not bought him.

Having said all that, he deserves great praise for his performances last season.....

Fantastic shot stopper indeed, if at him. Was also very good one v one. The things that relied on his reflexes and experience.Give it to Jabo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:52 pm He was a fantastic shot-stopper; distribution not so great.
But anything requiring him to move off of his goal line, or shots from distance in the corners, or crosses, forget it.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
I’d like to see us sign a new keeper who would be first choice and not just back up for Sargeant

Sarge has done a great job the last few games. Brill’s injury could be a blessing in disguise.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Shame for Deano to end his time for us like this, but I’d just like to place on record my thanks for some great displays last season in the National League, making some important saves etc
I know it’s his job etc but I’m sure T and T are very grateful for him stepping in when Justin took over 2 years ago.
It’s up to Sarge’ now to make the position his own but of course we do need to sign a back-up or competitor for Sarge’.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
I guess in those 24 games where he kept a clean sheet which incidentally equalled a club record nothing happened where he had to move?RedO wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:55 pmFantastic shot stopper indeed, if at him. Absolute Master Stroke from Justin to promote Dean from Keeper coach to 1st team keeper.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 6:18 pmI guess in those 24 games where he kept a clean sheet which incidentally equalled a club record nothing happened where he had to move?RedO wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:55 pmFantastic shot stopper indeed, if at him. Pretty much. Coulson, Happe and Marvin were monumental last season.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 6:18 pmI guess in those 24 games where he kept a clean sheet which incidentally equalled a club record nothing happened where he had to move?RedO wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 5:55 pmFantastic shot stopper indeed, if at him. Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
When he came into the team, he made a huge difference and was instrumental in the recent success. Yes, he wasn't great at all facets of goalkeeping, that's why he was playing in the fifth division. But, he has made a great contribution and if this to be the end he should be remembered well.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Last season superb, not just as a keeper but as a leader of the backline, this season he has been found out a bit but I'm convinced he has been playing injured for a while, he has been so slow to get down if at all sometimes, it defintely didn't look right. Him and Coulson have suffered with the pace of the step up the most.

Besides even if we signed 4 players in the January window its very unlikely we will make the play off's - so its not worth blowing the budget on players. If ever Sarge is to make it as a first choice keeper then now is the time. He's now played 4 on the spin and proven to be ok. A couple of saves in the past 2 games Brill may not have made. I'd stick with him unless he gives us a real reason to need a keeper - that we can sign anytime on loan until March.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Thanks for everything Deano. You answered the call and returned to playing, and became part of a championship-winning team. An Orient legend as far as I’m concerned.
Great to see Sargeant slot in so well, and make some good saves. Kicking looks good too.

Re: BRILL out for rest of the season
Brill did us proud last season.
Having said that it was a really poor decision to extend Brills and Coulson’s contracts at a point when there was absolutely no need to do so.
Very poor from ML.
