One nation conservative goes back to Iain Mccloud in the late 60's.UpminsterO wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 9:50 pm I notice the Conservative party have re branded and now with the emphasis on the word one nation
I read in Australia the right wing one nation party is led by the thick bigoted and stupid women Pauline Hanson
She is the attention seeking former fish and chip shop owner that turned up in parliament wearing a Burka - as a stunt
She was expelled from the Australian equivalent of the Conservative party
I hope the Conservative party re branded does not or has not gone so far right it's off the page of a A4 piece of paper

Re: ONE NATION CONSERVATIVE
Another enduring Tory myth, anyone remember 'trickledown'? Making rich people richer would somehow help the poor. One Nation Conservatism is nothing more than crumbs from the table and sweepings from the floor.

Re: ONE NATION CONSERVATIVE
One nation Tories are centre ground Tories. The recent proud one nation Tories included Soubry, Sandback, Morgan and Greening. There are going to be a lot of disappointed ex UKIP, Brexit party voters over the next few months. The strong man will become a limp lettuce.

I think Dom has other ideas. Whether he is allowed to implement them is another matter of course.

Re: ONE NATION CONSERVATIVE
He's posted plenty of long-winded essays for those who have nothing better to do but read them.
He believes that the very structure of the Whitehall apparatus is the main barrier to the pure implementation of ideology. He doesn't see himself as a tribal Tory, but as a maverick who can transform the way the state functions through a complete realignment of the Tory party and deconstruction of the civil service. He also saw our membership of the EU as part of this proble. He actually does want to smash the system.
Beradogs is right about Boris. He's just another right of centre neoliberal. If you voted for him on the basis that he is something else then you've been conned. But, if you voted for him, I reckon you kind of know that already and just don't care.
Boris has used Cummings to achieve his life goal of being PM. Now Cummings will expect to use Boris to achieve his ambitions. It will be fascinating to watch.
The problems with smashing a system are:
1. The system always fights back
2. If you happen to win, you create a vacuum. And what fills that vacuum is very seldom what the architects intended.
